Pro-Palestinian hackers bring down Haaretz Hebrew website

In a Twitter message, Anonymous Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack: 'haaretz.co.il Tango Down '
By Oded Yaron, Dan Even and DPA

Pro-Palestinian hackers brought down Haaretz's Hebrew website on Wednesday, after several Israeli websites were targeted earlier in the day.

Haaretz Hebrew website was brought down in a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, as a cyber war between pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian hackers continued.

In a Twitter message, Anonymous Palestine claimed responsibility for the attack: "haaretz.co.il Tango Down ".

The hackers promised to continue the attack on Israeli websites and in fact, several hours later, the website of Israel Hayom newspaper was also paralyzed, with the hackers tweeting a similar message, "israelhayom.co.il tango down!"

The attacks saturated the websites' servers with information such that it could not respond to legitimate internet traffic.

Oh joy--they've done a Simpson's-Nelson-style "HA Ha!" by pooping in their punch briefly.

What does it mean, except they have the capability to act like jerks for a bit?

I just don't get it. So much effort, and for what, really?

Maybe they figure this is more effective than throwing rocks or launching rockets

People tend to hate people less when they see them as not enemies but actual people, with families, lives, routines, etc.

It's easy to get pissed at someone on the other side of a wall tossing rockets or screwing with the website of a hospital. Harder to get pissed at that kid taking his little sister to school.

It just depends on who's being silenced. I don't like it.

If they wanted to go after a rotten media website, they should have taken down the repugnant Jerusalem Post.

It's a flame-war between two groups of hackers, roughly self-distinguished as pro-Israel / Pro-Palestinian. Neither group is accomplishing a goddamned thing for "the cause" they espouse, they're just some dweebs dweebing off with DDoS attacks.

If you want to take it seriously, you're just getting trolled.
