Report: Jordanian activists launch new Israel boycott campaign

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A new activist campaign seeks to implement a boycott of Israeli products in Jordan's grocery stores, a Jordanian daily newspaper reported Friday.

According to report published in al-Ghad, the new Jordanian campaign to boycott Israeli products is called "Tatheer," meaning purification.

The campaign was started by Muhammad al-Ramini, who bought a bag of seeds from a peddler only to discover that it was a product of Israel, the report said.

Al-Ramani returned the seeds, and posted about his experience on his Facebook page. He and other Facebook users then organized the "Tatheer" campaign to "purify Jordan of Israeli products," especially fruits and vegetables.

Jordanians boycotting Israel for being anti-Palestinian is rather like a pot boycotting a kettle.

3. I wasn't saying he wasn't sincere; just that he might consider looking at his own country's actions

first.

Maybe he has for all I know; but otherwise it seems a bit too much like attacking a safe target, while ignoring an obvious, but perhaps more risky, one.

4. He can't control what his government does, seems to me he is merely taking action

in solidarity. His actions speak for him, I imagine he knows his government is not
going to cooperate...he needs to boycott his state for not boycotting Israel? He seems
to be killing two birds with one stone, imo.

Of course, an individual has the right to boycott whatever they want to.

But I think one's own country should be a priority, and Jordan has been at least as oppressive toward Palestinians as Israel has.

Up to him, of course.

Says the British guy, posting on a website largely devoted to an American political party, in a subforum about Israel and Palestine. I notice a lot of posts about Russia, Ukraine and Uganda on DU of late. Where are you to remind all these people, "Hey! Home front first!" Why save this argument exclusively for Israel - and only when it's criticism of Israel, and never Israel's criticism of somewhere else? Never seen you argue Israel should mind its own messes before whimpering about Iran or Denmark or something.

But hey, at least your most-frequented forum IS the UK forum,so I guess I can't call you a hypocrite, in the strictest sense. But you DO seem awfully prejudicial in your application of this argument.

As you say, it's up to him (and how magnanimous of you to extend your blessing so!) Plus - you may not have noticed - but this guy IS protesting locally - he wants Jordanian stores to stop carrying Israeli goods. That is he's focusing on businesses in Jordan to do what he feels is the right thing for them to do, within their ability to do so.
