Israel requests Pope's poster be removed from Jerusalem Church

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/news/middle-east/11439-israel-requests-popes-poster-be-removed-from-jerusalem-church

The Israeli police requested a welcome poster for Pope Francis be removed from a building belonging to the church near Jaffa Gate to avoid "inflaming Jewish passions".

The National Christian Assembly Secretary-General Dimitri Delyani described the Israeli request as a "rude act". "This rude act will only strengthen the Christian and Muslim unity from all over the Holy Land to prove that Jerusalem is an Arab city with a Christian and Islamic civilisation, and no Judaisation programme or ethnic cleansing crimes will erase this well established fact in the hearts of each and every one of us."

"This is our city and we will build mosques and churches and we will receive or expel who ever we want, but when the occupation wants to control it and its people and regards them as temporary residents, this would cause a rift," Delyani said.

He continued "The National Christian Assembly is sending messages to all churches around the world to expose the Israeli practices, including the Jewish terrorism represented in this request."

Wow, what a democracy Israel is turning out to be.

• Colonialism (aka land theft)
• Brutality (shootings, murder)
• Destruction of personal / private property
• Threats of annexation
• Threats of deportation
• Clear evidence of Apartheid
• Religious intolerance

This sounds more like a playbook for theocracy than democracy.

The story sounds like BS, and is probably a lie. tritsofme May 2014 #1
Are the incidents of vandalism against the Church in Israel also lies? R. Daneel Olivaw May 2014 #2
No, but this appears to be. tritsofme May 2014 #4
Let's put it this way. is there some proof that you possess which proves this a lie? R. Daneel Olivaw May 2014 #5

It's easy to deny something, but with the IDF anything is possible.

http://www.theage.com.au/world/church-attacks-in-israel-poison-before-popes-visit-cleric-says-20140512-zr9sn.html

Fourteen attacks by suspected far-right Israelis have been reported in the past year. Several have been carried out over the last month, including a death threat daubed in Hebrew at the Assembly of Bishops at the Notre Dame Centre in East Jerusalem.

The police fail to catch, time after time, perpetrators of price tag attacks.

The IDF has, on video mind you, stood by as Israelis stoned Palestinians and their property with impunity.

The IDF, again on video, can be heard ordering a Palestinian to remove a Palestinian flag from his home...this being after an Israeli settler tried to invade the Palestinians home to steal the flag. Instead of accomplishing this act of theft he was caught in some wire mesh and had to be helped out by the IDF.

The IDF time after time has been documented shooting civilians, standing by while Israeli settlers cause havoc on Palestinian land and generally have not done the job of protecting Palestinians.

All that being said you are going to attempt to paint the story of the Israeli Police requesting a welcome poster for Pope Francis being removed as a lie?

It's also easy to deny things that make some feel uncomfortable.

Given the track record of Israel, the IDF and its religious fundamentalists the denials don't hold a lot of weight.

because "Israel=good"?

Pardon me if I'm a little more inclined to take the word of Dimitri Delyani, Secretary-General of the National Christian Assembly, who is citing Israeli police... over the assertion of some guy named "tritsofme" who I blundered into on the internet one day.

"inflaming" Jewish passions is a much sexier story than one on regulations for decorating archeological sites.

Why let a pesky thing like truth get in the way of that?

That the request was due to regulations on decorating historic buildings, not "inflaming Jewish passions"

Is it even logical that Israeli police would serve up a reason with such wonderful propaganda value?

Christ Church, Jerusalem, is an Anglican church located inside the Old City of Jerusalem. The building itself is part of a small compound just inside the Jaffa Gate opposite King David's citadel. It is the oldest Protestant church in the Middle East. Its congregation is mainly composed of English speaking Jewish Christians, with both Christian and Jewish festivals being celebrated.[1]

The Israeli police enforce all sorts of wonderful illogical things like tearing down Palestinian buildings, because they don't have the proper "permits" while that problem doesn't manifest itself in the Israeli settler population.

When you "inflame Jewish passions" you get a torrent of LTTEs and maybe a sternly worded article in the NYT.

I think we all know what happens when a cartoon or something "inflames Muslim passions".

The truth is that there are rules about the placement of banners on archeological sites like the building in question.
