Netanyahu: Cease-fire with Hamas is not on Israel's agenda

Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman suggests cutting water and electricity to Gaza; Netanyahu: We can't do what Russia did to the Chechens.

By Barak Ravid | Jul. 10, 2014

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee on Thursday that a cease-fire with Hamas was not on the agenda.

Netanyahu was asked a number of times whether the government had certain political goals and whether he was in contact with Egypt or other countries to try to bring about a cease-fire through diplomatic means, MKs said.

"I am not talking to anybody about a cease-fire right now," Netanyahu told the committee. "It's not even on the agenda."

Netanyahu also stressed that he had received understanding and support from every foreign leader he had spoken to in the last day. "French President Francois Hollande told me that I am right and even issued a statement condemning the rocket fire afterward," Netanyahu said.

The Security Council is meeting to consider whether to condemn Israel amid the deaths of Palestinian civilians.

By Barak Ravid | 16:26 10.07.1

Jerusalem and Washington are trying to prevent the UN Security Council from condemning Israel’s air offensive in the Gaza Strip, in which dozens of Palestinian civilians have been killed, Israeli diplomats said Thursday. The Security Council is due to meet at 9 A.M. New York time to discuss the fighting between Israel and Hamas.

Flights at Ben-Gurion Airport operate as normal

Flights coming in and out of the Ben Gurion Airport in Lod are operating on their normal schedules today, Israel Radio reports.

Still, passengers should keep updated by checking with their airlines and online.

and in Tel Aviv

In Tel Aviv, keep calm and tip the sushi guy

In Israel’s cosmopolitan heart, ongoing rocket fire is shaking the public, but not enough to screw up routines

Shemesh was enjoying lunch with her two daughters at Café Xoho, a sweet establishment popular with expats that is tucked onto a side street between the city’s upscale shopping boulevards of Dizengoff Street and Ben Yehuda. On most days during the lunch rush, Xoho is packed to capacity, with diners spilling out of its shabby-chic storefront onto the shady covered patio. This week, however, while business has been steady, owner Xoli Ormut-Durbin says she has definitely felt a slowdown.

“We have a lot of people chilling on their computers here, but usually at this hour it’s totally packed,” Ormut-Durbin said, gesturing to several empty tables while picking up change from a customer. “I think everyone is less interested in leaving their houses right now. Generally in Tel Aviv, the alarm will go off and people will keep walking. But now it’s been going on for a few days, so it’s getting scarier.”

For some, that may be true. Other Tel Avivians, however, have done what they do best during the spike in hostilities this week: turning to social media to show just how unconcerned they are.

as 82 of them have died and 550 of them have been wounded, guess they'll just have to boot strap them selves huh?

of course you've got stuff like this too

Earlier, nine Palestinians were killed and at least 10 injured when Israel targeted Waqt al-Marah coffee shop on a Khan Younis beach.

Locals said dozens of people were watching the World Cup semi-final game when Israel fired a missile at the crowd.

They dealing with a Hamas government that is made up of suicidal maniacs trying to cause a nuclear meltdown and don't really care about their own people or anyone else.
Not any easy situation for Israel especially since Israel values human life and clearly their enemy couldn't give a shit even about their own people.

IDF kills head of Hamas' rocket arsenal, first senior militant in this operation; over 80 Gaza residents killed since start;
By Haaretz | Jul. 10, 2014

Live updates:

snip* 5:29 P.M. The Palestinian UN envoy responds: We must stop the carnage and the Israeli attacks on Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Israel's occupation is racist and expansionist. Israel claims it is the only democracy in the Middle East but is attacking innocent civilians. Israel is perpetrating war crimes and state terror against civilians in Gaza. (Barak Ravid)

5:23 P.M. UNSC meeting on Gaza escalation has started. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says Israeli ground operation is still preventable if Hamas stops rocket fire. He says he is worried about civilians in Israel and Gaza being hurt, and that civilians in Gaza are caught between Hamas' irresponsible behavior and Israel's attacks. Ban is concerned about civilian deaths, and says the current violence in Gaza shows the status quo between Israel and the Palestinians is unsustainable. (Barak Ravid)

5:17 P.M. Hamas says Kerry is a partner to the murder of Palestinian children and that his declaration about Israel having the right to defend itself enables Israel to continue its crimes and agressions against the Palestinian people. (Jack Khoury)

5:22 P.M. Nine rockets explode in Eshkol Regional Council, at least two near towns. Damage to the road reported. (Shirley Seidler)

5:07 P.M. Mahmoud Abbas' office is reporting on a phone call between him and Secretary of State John Kerry, which took place around an hour ago. The office says that Abbas asked Kerry to help him reach a ceasefire as soon as possible. The two agreed to keep in contact. Abbas also spoke today with Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan. A senior official in Abbas' office said that he spoke with "everyone he could, including the Hamas leadership, and as far as he is concerned stopping the fighting immediately is of the highest priority." as that could expose Israeli troops to actual risk, as it stands deaths are solely Palestinian and as long as he can keep it that way Israeli's will remain 'resilient'
