http://mondoweiss.net/2014/07/massacre-shujaiyeh-shelters.htmlMedhat Abbas, Director General of the Ministry of Health in Gaza said there are at least 60 dead in Shujaiyeh only, and hundreds wounded. He added, I dont have the number now because there is no electricity, no nothing. Dr. Abbas is directing services his ministry usually handles to the overloaded al-Shifa hospital. The Israeli aggression against civilians should be stopped, said al-Shifas hospital administrator Dr. Hasan Khalas who confirmed that 112 Palestinians were killed across Gaza last night. The bloodshed and blood in Gazas streets, he added was the responsibility of the international community, Because of the international decision to put a siege on Gaza, and this is a result of that. We should not continue to live under siege and just be killed continuous.
---
There are thousands of people fleeing, and heavy shelling until a couple of hours ago, said the Daily Beasts Jesse Rosenfeld who had just left the carnage the Gazan citys most intensely fired upon region. Other journalists confirmed bodies were stacked in piles in Gazas al-Shifa hospital, the largest medical facility in the besieged coastal strip, and even bodies stacked in Shuja-iyehs war torn streets. Palestinian photojournalist Khaled Hamad, 25, was killed while riding with Red Crescent emergency responders, and medic Fouad Jaber, 28, was killed in the line of duty.
Do the knob heads that cheer Israel on in these actions really believe that by killing Palestinian civilians...children it makes the apartheid state look like anything else than a butcher?
For all the civilians who have died in this conflict.
It's time to stop the killing.

(90,061 posts)Over 60 Palestinians were killed today in Israel's fiercest attack on Gaza in recent years, as the death toll in the conflict spiralled past 410 after the Israeli air and ground assault was expanded to pound Hamas targets. The bloodiest day in the 13 days of conflict prompted urgent efforts by the International Committee of the Red Cross to broker a temporary ceasefire to allow evacuation of the dead and wounded in a deal accepted by both Israel and Hamas. However, the humanitarian ceasefire was short-lived as the Israeli army accused Hamas militants of violating it and said it had "responded accordingly".
"Once more, Hamas breaches ceasefire, this time brokered by the ICRC for a humanitarian hiatus. IDF responding accordingly," army spokesman Peter Lerner said on his official Twitter account, 40 minutes into the truce.
Hundreds of Palestinians fled in panic into Gaza City today as Israeli troops focused their firepower on the nearby town of Shaja'ia. The shelling and bombing killed over 60 people and injured about 380 others, a Gaza hospital spokesman said. More bodies lay in the streets under gashes blasted into apartment buildings, people who had escaped the violence said, as the shelling continued. The Palestinian death crossed 410, with medics warning it could rise further due to the ongoing bombardment of areas north and east of Gaza City. The death toll on the Palestinian side included children and women, with over 2,500 injured and almost 61,000 displaced seeking refuge in 49 UN Relief and Works Agency run centres, sources in the Gaza Strip said.
Over 60 Palestinians killed today, included Osama Al-Haya, son of Hamas leader Khalil al-Haya. The IDF bombed the house in which he was staying.

(90,061 posts)National Journal Editor Rich Lowry asserted over the weekend that Israelis were not at fault for the deaths of four boys who were killed while playing on a Gaza beach last week because Hamas should have told them to move out of the way.
After the four children were killed by explosions last week, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) explained to reporters that the kids had likely been misidentified as a legitimate Hamas target, Haaretz reported.
But Lowry told Fox News host Tucker Carlson that the misidentification would never have happened if Hamas had not have provoked the Israelis in the first place.

(90,061 posts)[Mughazi Refugee Camp, Gaza Strip] -- At least 50 Palestinians were killed and 400 others wounded when Israel shelled the Shejaia neighborhood in the northeast Gaza Strip, bringing the total to more than 400 killed and 2,500 wounded since the fighting began almost two weeks ago, according to Palestinian health officials.
Hamas leader Mahmoud A-Zahar termed the incident a massacre and called for an international investigation. Israel accepted a request by the Red Cross for a two-hour humanitarian cease fire to allow the wounded to be evacuated to the nearby hospital. Hamas firing only an hour into the time out seemed to end the ceasefire abruptly, but Israel later said it would prolong it for several more hours.
In Jerusalem, an Israeli army spokeswoman said that soldiers discovered ten tunnel shafts in the area, and said that at least 140 rockets had been launched from there. She told The Media Line that the IDF had twice dropped leaflets on the area, once last week and a second time yesterday, urging residents to flee the area. Palestinians respond that many of them have nowhere to go, as the Israeli and Egyptian crossings are both closed. Gaza-based health officials said 35,000 Palestinians fled their homes on Sunday, joining more than 63,000 who had already sought shelter in United Nations schools in Gaza.
Egypt announced it would open the Rafah border crossing for one week in order to allow wounded Palestinians to receive medical treatment. Israel announced it will open a field hospital near the border between Israel and Gaza to treat Palestinian casualties, although it was not clear how they would access the facility.

(90,061 posts)Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that Israel will take "whatever action is necessary" to halt Hamas cross-border rocket attacks from Gaza and restore calm but insisted his forces were doing their utmost to avoid civilian casualties there.
"We try to target military targets and unfortunately there are civilian casualties which we regret and we don't seek," Netanyahu told CNN shortly after an Israeli attack on a Gaza neighborhood killed at least 62 Palestinians.
He accused Hamas of deliberately targeting Israeli civilians and of using Gaza residents as "human shields." Asked how long it would take Israel to complete an operation it says is
intended to destroy Hamas weapons tunnels, Netanyahu said it was being done "fairly quickly," but gave no time frame.
Asked whether Israel intends to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, he said: "Nobody wants to go to excessive military lengths."

The Palestinian Territories currently serve the same purpose as the Chicago projects did- -which is the isolation and control of a society's undesirables.
It is only through the dismantling of these 'ghettos' that true integration can begin.
Or we could leave it intact and go through this crap every few years...

(6,960 posts)One state.
Perhaps some variation on a federal system so that constitutionally the civil rights of the Israeli/Jewish minority can be protected.
Under the current order, the obvious objective of the Jewish state is the elimination of the Palestinians or their relegation into permanent second class citizens.
Unfortunately, the politicians and governments in Israel over the last 6 decades have gotten themselves into such a predicament that they cannot find a peaceful solution as a separate, Jewish state. Nor will a separate Palestinian state now work, especially since Israel has reduced its potential geographic existence to almost nothing.
What we are witnessing in Gaza is Netanyahu and his faction trying to find 'co-existence' through massive destruction and killing -- it won't work -- and frankly at this point Israel is losing this latest battle.

(90,061 posts)GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces extended twice a temporary ceasefire brokered by the Red Cross on Sunday after they broke it multiple times over the course of four hours.
The ceasefire began at 1:30 p.m. and lasted until 5:30 p.m. to allow the evacuation of Palestinians from Shujaiyya neighborhood, where at least 66 Palestinians were killed and 400 injured in an Israeli assault that Gaza medical authorities called a "massacre" earlier in the day.
Israel, however, resumed military attacks on Shujaiyya shortly after the ceasefire was implemented, saying they were provoked by Hamas violations.
Israeli forces said in a statement released just after 4 p.m. that Palestinian militants had opened fire near al-Wafa Hospital, and that Israeli forces had responded to other attacks earlier in the day.

(90,061 posts)As the sun begins to sink over the Mediterranean, groups of Israelis gather each evening on hilltops close to the Gaza border to cheer, whoop and whistle as bombs rain down on people in a warzone hell a few miles away.
Old sofas, garden chairs, battered car seats and upturned crates provide seating for the spectators. On one hilltop, a swing has been attached to the branches of a pine tree, allowing its occupant to sway gently in the breeze. Some bring bottles of beer or soft drinks and snacks.
On Saturday, a group of men huddle around a shisha pipe. Nearly all hold up smartphones to record the explosions or to pose grinning, perhaps with thumbs up, for selfies against a backdrop of black smoke.
Despite reports that millions of Israelis are living in terror of Hamas rockets, they dont deter these hilltop war watchers whose proximity to Gaza puts them within range of the most rudimentary missiles. Some bring their children.

The fighting, including heavy Israeli tank fire, killed 13 Israeli soldiers, scores of Palestinians, forced thousands to flee their homes and left dozens of homes destroyed.
Palestinian health officials reported at least 50 dead in air and artillery strikes that echoed across the city for hours and sent panicked residents fleeing, many carrying small children and waving white flags. Gaza officials said 35,000 people fled their homes Sunday.
The nearly two-week conflict has killed more than 400 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers.

(90,061 posts)GAZA CITY -- Just after sunrise on Sunday, Zeinab, a young Palestinian mother, ran out of her house in Gaza City's Shijaiyah neighborhood with her husband and barefoot 5-year-old daughter. With the sound of Israeli drones overhead and air strikes and tank shelling all around, Zeinab watched as her neighbors poured into the streets and began to run. So she did the same.
We were running, and [the Israeli Army] was attacking behind us, she said, sitting within the safety of al-Shifa Hospitals compound in central Gaza City, over three miles away from Shijaiyah. There were dead people around us. Frantic families, many shellshocked and inconsolable, stood around Zeinab, not knowing where to go or what to do next.
Thousands of Shijaiyah residents, some in bulldozers and the trunks of cars, others on foot and in wheelchairs, fled to central Gaza City Sunday as Israel escalated its ground offensive and targeted the crowded Gaza City neighborhood. Palestinian officials have reported that at least 65 people were killed in the attack. At least 420 Palestinians, most of them civilians, and seven Israelis have been killed in the two weeks of fighting.
The Israeli military says it gave adequate warning to civilians to evacuate the area, but many residents, along with Palestinians in the rest of Gaza, say they have nowhere safe left to go. People in parts of the south, middle and north of Gaza have been told to leave their homes, but cash-strapped UNRWA, the UN agency that aids Palestinian refugees, says it is running out of space and supplies to support Gaza's mass internally displaced population.

Kerry used the same word, pinpoint, that was employed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a Sunday interview with CNN.
There are very few examples in history of countries that have been rocketed on this scale, Netanyahu told CNN. If you look at our response, its actually very measured and trying to be as pinpointed as we can.

(90,061 posts)(Reuters) - More than 60 Palestinians and 13 Israeli soldiers were killed as Israel shelled a Gaza neighborhood and battled militants on Sunday in the bloodiest fighting in a near two-week-old offensive.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of carrying out a massacre in Shejaia in the eastern suburbs of the city of Gaza and declared three days of mourning.
Israel's army said it was targeting militants from Gaza's dominant Hamas group whom it alleged had fired rockets from Shejaia and built tunnels and command centers there. The army said it had warned locals two days earlier to leave.
It was the Israeli military's highest one-day death toll since a 2006 war against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
