More children than Palestinian fighters are being killed in Israel's offensive on Gaza, according to the UN. Shown here are the name, age, and sex of 132 of those children, recorded by the Al Mezan Centre for Human RightsSince the start of Israel's Operation Protective Edge, and the ground assault on the Gaza Strip since last Thursday, at least 580 Palestinians have been killed.
Of these more than a quarter have been children.
The Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, a Gaza-based human rights organisation which works with the UN, has verified the deaths of 132 children between July 7 and July 21 via its field workers.
The above graphic gives the name, age, sex and location - as well as the date on which they were killed - of all of these.

(34,648 posts)I see some of the dead girls share a version of my middle name as their middle nmes. I never met anyone with it. It's sad to see it in writing and know that the people are dead. Majid, glorious. I got a boy name for mine for some reason, Najid, brave. Sad.

(30,099 posts)The shelling of the school, which is affiliated with the UN's Palestine refugee agency UNRWA, is the fourth time in two days that Israeli forces have bombed schools serving as shelters for the displaced in the besieged Gaza Strip.
A local radio station quoted an eyewitness as saying that immediately before the shelling, a man who introduced himself as a Red Cross official had asked displaced people seeking shelter there to gather in the yard because they would be evacuated to another place.
An UNRWA official intervened when he saw people gathering and argued that there has been no coordination with the UNRWA and told people to go back to their rooms. During the argument, Israeli artillery shells started to hit the school.

So they can kill children.
Meanwhile, 10s of thousands of children refugees from Central America live in virtual prisons, because theres "not enough" funding for proper housing, case workers, and immigration judges to process them quickly and determine their status.

B'Tselem learned from the media today that the Israel Broadcast Authority (IBA) had rejected an appeal against IBA Radios refusal to air a spot in which the names of Gazan children killed during Operation Protective Edge were read out. In response, B'Tselem posted the censored spot on Facebook. Within hours, almost 300,000 people had been exposed to the names and the post was shared more than 900 times.

Sarah Woznick is a specialist intensive care nurse. She arrived in Gaza six months ago from Denver, Colorado. She was due to leave the mission the day after operation Protective Edge began. She decided to stay on to help provide medical care.
"I was scheduled to leave Gaza the day after the military operation Protective Edge started. That first day there were lots of air strikes in our area. Its a strange feeling when you realise that one is falling not far from you.
Now I am a little more accustomed, but it still makes me jump from time to time. All of us think about our Palestinian colleagues - we worry about them and their families - their homes may not be safe.

(25,347 posts)Let us publish a list of all of those innocents in Israel who were killed by terrorist bombs which blew up buses, pizza joints, coffee houses, restaurants, or other retail establishments. We shall add to the list all of those kidnapped and tortured, hostages killed outright, and other atrocities, "disgusting" and "vile" atrocities as some would call them if the Israelis perpetrated them, (not so much the other way around); and let us not forget all those who lived in Gaza and the West Bank who were suspected of being Israeli spies, who in fact were not: that they were skinned alive and eviscerated. Yeah...let us publish that list somewhere. No?
