(Jpost) Into the fray: Why Gaza must go

At the time of writing this column, ground operations in Gaza were still going on and reports of increasing casualties were coming in with depressing frequency. This should, therefore, be a time for national cohesion and solidarity, with unity and support for the war effort, and criticism of the government suspended.

Sadly, however, the government has given the public little coherent indication of its aims, or of the realities it is striving to create.

...

The only durable solution requires dismantling Gaza, humanitarian relocation of the non-belligerent Arab population, and extension of Israeli sovereignty over the region.

That is the only approach that can solve the problem of Gaza.

The hilt is the point where end of the blade meets the handle. If you've stabbed someone so deeply that the hilt is incontact with their chest, that's "to the hilt&quot at least by one definition, IIRC).

Into the atmosphere? I know they aren't saying that, but I wouldn't doubt the thought is there.

The main thing that struck me was that the author of the column (Martin Sherman) called for relocation but gave your question no attention whatsoever.

As for the commenter's suggestion, my uninformed guess is that the Sinai desert can't support any significant fraction of the 1.8 million people in Gaza.

If we rule out Sinai and the stratosphere, relocation would have to be to one or more of the Arab countries. I assume that any country willing to take these people would have done so long ago.

Surprised Jpost would provide ink to this nonsense and even more surprised you would allow it further publicity.

I find it a little odd. You understand the principle of shining light on hate, when it's Jews as the target. And good, two thumbs up.

But when it's hate against Arabs, you want it hidden, tucked back into a dark corner, where no one sees or speaks of it?

Clearly, this sort of solution has been bandied about in far right wing ultra-nationalist groups for a long time (Kahane).

What is disappointing is the amount of vigor and enthusiasm the concept generates through the comment section below.
What is even more disappointing is the casual disregard to "this nonsense", instead of voicing a firm convicted rejection of such a so called solution.

Why do you call it nonsense, exactly?

He calls this his "Gaza Solution." Inadvertently left out the word "Final," I guess.

Vicious endorsement of ethnic cleansing.

Sherman is a far-right extremist who opposes the two-state solution ('the two-state psychosis'); is hateful about anyone who supports it; thinks that Begin was an appeaser; frequently attacks Dershowitz for being a two-stater; considers that Israel is endangered by its 'loony lethal left' including such as Livni and Lapid; and takes the classic far-right view that evil powerful elites in Israeli media, politics, etc. are imposing their left-wing will on the people. He uses 'moderation' as a term of abuse.

Basically, he'd make IsraelNationalNews look middle-of-the-road in comparison.

If you think that he is typical of Israeli writers, then no wonder you think that there are no Israeli/Zionist leftists. Fortunately, he does not represent Israel as a whole, any more than the BNP represents Britain, or Ann Coulter America.

What is really most worrying here is not that the nutter exists, but that the Jerusalem Post gave him a platform; just as what's most worrying about Ann Coulter is that people pay her to publish her revolting rubbish.
