Apartheid Israel is self-harming with Western support

https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/articles/middle-east/16099-apartheid-israel-is-self-harming-with-western-support

As the year draws to a close one of the most highly respected voices in the international community says that he has genuine fears for the welfare of Israelis who have become "dehumanised" by their treatment of the Palestinian people. Drawing parallels with those who self-harm, Archbishop Desmond Tutu has catalogued the shocking behaviour of the Zionist war machine as seen through his own eyes.

It is a powerful testament from a man who recognises the evils of Apartheid when he sees them and highlights the futility of Western support for a regime which is destroying itself through its own hatred towards its fellow human beings. Very few parents or friends would stand by and watch their loved ones self-harm without intervention, but it appears that friends of Israel are doing exactly that by offering unconditional support, as evidenced at the UN.

To its eternal shame Britain - a once great, influential nation - scuttled in line like an obedient, toothless cur on the heels of the US to block a draft Palestinian resolution in the UN Security Council calling for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied West Bank by 2017 and the establishment of a Palestinian state with borders based on the pre-1967 armistice lines. British Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant claimed that his delegation could not support the current draft because of "some difficulties with the text, particularly language on time scales, new language on refugees."

Typically, the US said that it would not support the resolution because it did not "advance the goal of peace." Quite why anyone would think that America is genuine about working towards peace anywhere, let alone in Israel-Palestine, when it has bombed, invaded, attacked or occupied more than 30 nations every single year for the past 70 years is beyond me. Apparently, though, people are still taken in by US propaganda.

I'm not sure how many DUers have become bored with the current state of affairs with the Palestine/Israel/American song and dance, but America has no intention of actually perusing a just peace. If America had that at heart they would not allow Israel to continue with the illegal occupation and colonization of Palestinian lands. America is not a legitimate seeker of peace inasmuch as it is a seeker of the status quo where Israel keeps a captive population under its heel.

In effect as the title of the OP states: Apartheid Israel is self-harming with Western support.

I would like to refer you to this subthread about your incorrect definition of apartheid. A little education helps - and before you attack me, I believe that there is a two-state solution, but the PA and Israelis have to sit down together and talk about it. Find something that works for everyone.

If Palestine wishes to exist as a state, then the PA has to recognize Israel, and they haven't - and have stated so.

Ariel Sharon recognized the need for the state of Palestine, and the only problem is the "right of return" is not possible. No government would grant that right of return in any of the 193 countries that is recognized by the U.N., which includes Israel. Yasser Arafat recognized the state of Israel in 1988, but denied it in 1993.

One other thing to keep in mind: Palestine is actually in violation of the Oslo Accords (II) by unilaterally bringing in incitements which is covered under Chapter 4, Article 22 as stated:

ARTICLE XXII

Relations between Israel and the Council
1. Israel and the Council shall seek to foster mutual understanding and tolerance and shall accordingly abstain from incitement, including hostile propaganda, against each other and, without derogating from the principle of freedom of expression, shall take legal measures to prevent such incitement by any organizations, groups or individuals within their jurisdiction.

2. Israel and the Council will ensure that their respective educational systems contribute to the peace between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples and to peace in the entire region, and will refrain from the introduction of any motifs that could adversely affect the process of reconciliation.

1: Letter from Yasser Arafat to Prime Minister Rabin

September 9, 1993
Yitzhak Rabin
Prime Minister of Israel

Mr. Prime Minister,

The signing of the Declaration of Principles marks a new era...I would like to confirm the following PLO commitments: The PLO recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist in peace and security. The PLO accepts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The PLO commits itself...to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations...the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators...the PLO affirms that those articles of the Palestinian Covenant which deny Israel's right to exist, and the provisions of the Covenant which are inconsistent with the commitments of this letter are now inoperative and no longer valid. Consequently, the PLO undertakes to submit to the Palestinian National Council for formal approval the necessary changes in regard to the Palestinian Covenant.

Sincerely,
Yasser Arafat.
Chairman: The Palestine Liberation Organization.

Oh, and Just for fun, you can call me Daneel.
