Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday joined a campaign by Habayit Hayehudi attacking the Labor-Hatnuah list, labeling it "anti-Zionist," after Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni officially announced on Wednesday that the list will be called "Zionist Camp."
"The Labor Party elected a radical left and anti-Zionist list," Netanyahu wrote in a Facebook post a day after the party announced its primary results. "A chasm exists between the Likud, under my leadership, and the Labor [list] that includes people who are saying: 'Israeli women shouldn't send their children to the army', Hatikva (Israel's national anthem) is racist' [and] 'my Palestinian identity is stronger than the Israeli [one].
"There is no link between the national and responsible approach of the Likud under my leadership and the leftist and irresponsible list of Tzipi and Bougie (Herzog)."
Habayit Hayehudi on Wednesday published a series of posters with the images of top Labor Knesset candidates along with quotes against symbols in the Zionist consensus. The posters aim to push the Labor from the Zionist center-left toward the leftist Arab-Jewish party Hadash.

(4,132 posts)Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that the Likud would not sit in a coalition with the Zionist Camp - the joint list of Isaac Herzog's Labor and Tzipi Livni's Hatnuah, following the March 17 Knesset elections.
"The Labor Party has chosen a radically left and anti-Zionist list," the prime minister said in a statement. "There is a yawning gap between Labor and the Likud."
Netanyahu quoted several statements, supposedly made by Labor personalities, as the reason why "there can be no meeting between the responsible, nationalist views of the Likud under my leadership and the radical leftist list of Tzipi and Bougie."
The statements included, "Israeli women need not sent their children to the army," "Hatikvah is a racist song," "My Palestinian identity is stronger than my Israeli" and "I don't connect with the concept of Zionism."
The Zionist Camp campaign responded: "The Likud is unable to hold primaries and its candidates can't work with each other for even a day, so it's no surprise that they also failed in governing the country. Just as they are unable to count votes they dont take the Israeli public into account.
"Our team knows how to lead a government that will work together in making decisions and promoting the issues that are of greatest importance to the citizens of Israel."

(4,132 posts)Yisrael Beiteinu chairman and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman announced on Saturday that he would not join a governing coalition with MK Zehava Gal-On, who leads the Meretz party. This move reduces the chances of Zionist Camp leaders Isaac Herzog and Tzipi Livni of forming a government after the election, as many possible scenarios necessitate including both parties in a future coalition.
