NOM-Backed NY Senator Introduces SS Marriage Repeal (Ads say violation of Torah to vote against him)

Newly-Elected NOM-Backed NY Senator Introduces Same-Sex Marriage Repeal

New York Sen. David Storobin (R-Brooklyn) only has a couple of weeks in office before his district vanishes forever, but he's wasting no time obeying his NOM masters, who largely financed his campaign. It's a douchebag move, of course, the bill won't go anywhere.

Ten days after taking office, Storobin has proposed a bill that would repeal the one-year-old law allowing same-sex couples in New York to marry, one of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s most important victories. “The government has thrust upon the people of this state a definition of marriage that violates their religious and personal moral beliefs,” Storobin argues in the memo attached to the bill. The effort isn’t likely to go very far. Storobin is the lone sponsor of the measure, and there’s no companion bill in the Assembly, where same-sex marriage has more robust support. An attorney from Russia, Storobin defeated Democratic City Councilman Lew Fidler in a race so close it needed more than two months and a hand recount to settle. He assailed his rival for his support of gay marriage during the campaign, and the topic became an important wedge issue that helped the Republican make inroads among a large Orthodox Jewish bloc in the district.

NOM paid for Storobin's ads in Brooklyn's Orthodox Jewish press. The ads warned that voting against Storobin was a violation of Torah law.

not to ever let them get elected to public office. Religion and government, exclusive of each other

Let them stand on their soap boxes in London's Speakers' Corner, or in NYC's Central Park, or worship on any day of the week at any hour in any building they want to build with their own money to use for worship, but never elect these bigots, no matter what religion they believe in, what garments they wear.

A bigot is a bigot is a bigot. (I should write a poem!)

I'm Jewish, and my wife's actually from that side of the family, fortunately I chose the most tolerant of the very right-wing family group.

And I'm sure he's on the outs already after 10 days in office. Hopefully he'll be replaced by a true Democrat that understands the needs for the Jewish community, and not force right-wing bullshit into our lives.
