Related: About this forumMuslims posted 'nasty and frightening' anti-gay leaflets demanding homosexuals 'turn or burn'
The men posted leaflets, with titles including Turn or Burn, God abhors you and The Death Penalty?, through doors and handed them out at a mosque, calling for the death penalty to be introduced for homosexuality.
Another leaflet that police found, entitled Dead Derby, described homosexuality as a "vile, ugly, cancerous disease" and asked the question "Gay Today, Paedophile Tomorrow?"
One witness, a gay man who was given one of the leaflets, and who cannot be named to protect his identity, told the court he "felt like I was going to get burned", adding: "I've never seen anything so disgraceful. It made me feel physically sick."
In the first prosecution of its kind after legislation covering hate crimes were amended in 2010 to take into account homophobia, the men are accused of stirring up hatred due to sexual orientation.

EDIT: To add I do not believe all Muslims support this as in the U.S. not all Christians support the radical right looneys. Just wanted to clear that up.

(2,261 posts)religion often gives permission and a "blessing" from the holy book to those who wish to be homophobic.
And we all know how many religions are not exactly "accepting" of the LGBT lifestyle. Some religious people are, but many churches and other religious groups are not!
Reason for rational people to reconsider how important religion should be in one's life, in my opinion.

(2,261 posts)I guess some religious folks didn't so far let me die.
Well, if you want to give me facts, I'm open to reading them.
Most are not really religious people..........so I stand by my statement.

(29,503 posts)If one must pick and choose one's battles, this is not one I want to get involved in (about free speech, Voltaire, yadda yadda), esp. since it seems to be one where our side is favored.
That said, I have many gay muslim friends who would totally abhor the leaflet at issue here.

(32,006 posts)Of course that's speaking from a US context as European countries interpret all bigoted speech (even without explicit violent threats) as "inciting hatred" and thus a crime. I guess the 1st amendment can't work in every nation.
