Today U.S. District Judge Terence Kern ruled that Oklahomas ban on marriage equality is unconstitutional. His ruling is stayed pending appeal, meaning marriages will not occur immediately in the Sooner State.
HRC President Chad Griffin issued the following statement:
Judge Kern has come to the conclusion that so many have before him that the fundamental equality of lesbian and gay couples is guaranteed by the United States Constitution. With last years historic victories at the Supreme Court guiding the way, it is clear that we are on a path to full and equal citizenship for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. Equality is not just for the coasts anymore, and todays news from Oklahoma shows that time has come for fairness and dignity to reach every American in all 50 states.

A federal judge in Oklahoma struck down thats states ban on gay marriage Tuesday, declaring that the 10-year-old state constitutional amendment violated equal protection guarantees in the US Constitution.
US District Judge Terence Kerns decision was in response to a lawsuit filed by two lesbian couples challenging the Oklahoma constitutional amendment, which restricts marriage to a union between one man and one woman.
Judge Kern based his ruling on his conclusion that the Oklahoma ban intentionally discriminates against same-sex couples desiring an Oklahoma marriage license without a legally sufficient justification [for the discrimination].

I wonder if he is? But, hey, wedding bells could be in my future. One thing is for sure, it ain't gonna be no white wedding!

It may be months and not years before marriage equality is law of the land. I never thought I'd be able to say that.
