I thought we could all use a little good news today, considering.

Ireland's referendum on gay marriage to be held in spring of 2015
All Irish political parties have already indicated support of marriage equality

A referendum on same-sex marriage in Ireland will be held in the spring of 2015, Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed today.

Kenny made the confirmation when asked about marriage equality in Ireland during Order of Business by Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams.

Kenny has previously said of marriage equality: 'I support it and I will canvass for it.'

The confirmation comes at a time when record numbers of people showed up last weekend in support of the Dublin Gay Pride Parade. A poll conducted in April showed growing support for same-sex marriage in Ireland with 67% of respondents planning to vote yes in the forthcoming referendum.

It is demeaning to have the public vote on your civil rights, even when the right side wins. Who else gets their rights voted on by the public?

Where you find one, you'll find the other. I think these past few days have illustrated that so very well.
