Small number of dumb-asses fault "Dr. Who" for being "too gay"

Story here

Much like the FCC in the U.S., the BBC must handle occasional viewer complaints. This time, three people have gotten themselves into a tizzy over the alleged over-promotion of homosexuality in the science fiction series "Dr. Who."

From the article:

A report released by the BBC today showed that three viewers had taken up formal complaints against the series for promoting a “homosexual agenda”, while the BBC as a whole was accused of “pro-gay bias”.

The report illustrated the BBC’s use of a policy that allows them to close down “trivial, misconceived, hypothetical, repetitious or otherwise vexatious” complaints.

I've always wondered about that phrase. My "homosexual agenda" is to get up every day and go to work. Do a good job. Be a good neighbor and citizen. Pay my bills and return my library books on time. And yeah, maybe to fall in love and live happily ever after. What exactly is so scary to the right wing about that homosexual agenda?

Homophobes are pro Hitler, I guess.

Strange though that this is not the thing sparking the poutrage.

Neither was this, which also happened two years ago...

It's this...

An inter-species lesbian kiss earlier this season. In short, it's ok with homophobes if homosexuality is the punchline of a joke... but love??!? They can't handle love.

would other species kiss?

To many humans it seems romantic, but would other humanoids find it appealing? Okay, Aerows fell off the deep end wondering ...

If they didn't like kissing, what WOULD they like? Ear rubs? Hair stroking? I don't know, it's Dr. Who. Seems to be a legitimate question .

What would you like your alien lover to do besides kiss you?

In the clip they are lovers, but they're not actually kissing romantically. They are stuck in a room where the non-reptilian woman can't breathe and she is providing her with oxygen. Aside from how specious that is scientifically, it's not actually even a kiss. I think it may more have to do with conservatives not being comfortable with women expressing power over their own sexuality in that one uses the phrase "my love" to the other. Judging by internet searchings, republicans clearly don't have a problem with lesbian porn... lesbian love however... for some reason sets them off.

An interesting question would also be, why do humans kiss? What's so special about that? How did it evolve? Many animals nuzzle each other, but I can't think of instances of actual kissing outside the human species. Hmm...

When you consider 3 out of a population of 64-65 million people it's actually more telling of just how open and accepting the general populace of the UK is.

That same petition in the US would have received support from various Christian networks, and foundations, and received top news coverage from Fox.

No matter what or where, every society and country is going to have their crazies.. it's good to see that it was such an insignificant number in this case.
