Florida Counties Just Stopped All Marriages To Avoid Marriage Equality

Once the Supreme Court refused to grant Pam Bondi’s request, a lower court’s overturning of the state’s gay marriage ban stood and the stay that it granted, meant to provide Florida with enough time to appeal the decision, was put on life support. With the stay meant to expire on Jan. 5, gay marriage will start all over the state the very next day.

Florida judge Robert Hinkle stated that courts refusing marriage licenses to same-sex couples at this point would be in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States. Not to be one-upped, Baker, Clay and Duval Counties have all stated that courthouse weddings will be ceased once marriage licenses are no longer restricted to just heterosexual couples.

Duval County, in fact, won’t perform courthouse weddings at all after Jan. 2. Fortunately, the United States Constitution is on the side of equality, and this means all three counties will still issue marriage licenses as required by law. Fortunately, there are surely churches that will perform the marriages, so who needs a courthouse anyway?

If a county or district clerk refuses to carry out the duties of their office, at least in Texas, it is a misdemeanor.

I know this because a a district clerk refused to register a common law marriage with me and my future spouse because I refused to change my last name. Something like 35 years ago this happened.

Cancel ALL marriages and piss off a bunch of heterosexual couples. So now homosexual and heterosexual couples have a common enemy in this moron's attempt to institutionalize bigotry.

I know once the law passed here in OK, in our town, no judges would preform the marriages.
