Michael Coward and his fiancé Michael Vaughn filed a report with Columbus, Ohio police after a U.S. Postal worker allegedly called them homophobic slurs, ripped their names off their mailbox, and said she'd stop delivering to them.
Coward says he went to check his mail as the postal worker delivered it, which provoked her to hurl homophobic slurs at him. I started arguing with her and she called me a f*ggot. And then she just kept going on and on and on about me and my fiance being white f*ggots. Yeah, not just [expletive]. White [expletives]. Coward told local Columbus news station 10TV.
Part of the incident was recorded on tape, where Coward confronts the worker, saying, Youve called me a f*ggot at least 10 times. The mail employee is heard saying, I called you what you are. Coward claims the woman then ripped his and Vaughn's names off the mailbox and said she wouldn't deliver mail there again. Youre telling us that youre not going to deliver our mail because were quote, White f*ggots.' I dont think thats how that works. Vaughn told 10TV.
The allegations made against a Postal Service employee are very concerning, the USPS said in a statement. These actions if true are not consistent with and dont represent the values of the Postal Service organization and will not be tolerated. You can be assured that this alleged incident is being fully investigated and that the Postal Service will take whatever action is appropriate.
