Related: About this forumDaniel Murphy makes things worse with his new message to gay Cubs fans
Daniel Murphys impact on the Chicago Cubs was immediate Thursday night. On the field, the Cubs new lead-off hitter went 2-for-5 and scored once in a 7-1 routing of the Cincinnati Reds. The National Leagues best record got even better as the Cubs got a bit win at Wrigley.
Off the field, Murphy did nothing to quell the concerns of LGBTQ Cubs fans that an avowed homophobe was now a part of their favorite team. When he was asked after the game if he had any comment for gay fans who were concerned with the Cubs acquisition of him, he was trite at best.
Oh dear, he said, as he looked off dismissively into space. In other words: These gay people are just so damn overly sensitive when Christians like me say they bad things about them.
He went on with a I-couldnt-care-less-what-those-gays-think answer about how gay fans should continue to cheer for the Cubs.

(23,294 posts)I will say that Im not a fan of Daniel Murphy. It is my hope his tenure as a Cub will be short. No room for his crap anywhere, IMO.

(21,646 posts)Gubrud told Outsports that Out at Wrigley had more energy than its had in years. It is for sure because of Murphy being on the Cubs. The Cubs announcer mentioned Out At Wrigley during the game.
He also said various Cubs fans booed Murphy every time he stood at the plate. That didnt seem to have much effect on the player, as he batted 2-for-4 en route to a 9-0 win over the Reds. The Cubs, already with the National Leagues best record, have won all five games since Murphy first took the field with them last Thursday. During that span hes batted .391.
I will always root for the Cubs, Gubrud said, but I cant for him.
Murphy is a devout Christian who has said he disagrees 100% with the gay lifestyle. When given an opportunity to comfort LGBTQ Cubs fans last week, he mocked their concern, drawing more criticism.
Cubs owners Tom and Laura Ricketts showed up at the LGBTQ section during the game and answered peoples questions about the Murphy acquisition, a noble gesture to the community.
Laura is an out lesbian.

(30,712 posts)Murphy was the name of the infamous billy goat, as in the Curse of the Billy Goat.
We finally get rid of the curse, and now they want to bring it back, in the form of a homophobe?
No one named Murphy should be on the Cubs! Ever!
