Marriage bill defines the LGBT community as a secular religion and finds that the establishment clause forbids LGBT "parody marriage" as an excessive entanglement with religion.

Anyway, for a good laugh-cry, you can read these bigoted marriage bills here: http://kslegislature.org/li/b2019_20/measures/documents/hb2320_00_0000.pdf and here: http://kslegislature.org/li/b2019_20/measures/documents/hb2321_00_0000.pdf

Not to be outdone, three NC lawmakers also have a Valentine's Day marriage proposal to declare Obergefell "null and void" on the grounds that "parody marriages" are unconstitutional under the First Amendment because "hundreds of thousands of taxpayers" think they're immoral.

One more reason why many people hate Kansas!

(34,103 posts)embarrassment for far too long. They KNOW this will never work but do it just to feed their voters. To tell you the truth directly from Kansas from someone who has worked these issues for a very long time, the people of Kansas have moved passed this, most of them anyway. This is for vote getting at election time by those they can continue to stir up with any issue.
When I saw this come through earlier I just wanted to laugh then cry and it just pisses me off so much that we cannot even relax once something is settled because they come up with this nonsense that we cannot ignore no matter how much the state has moved forward.

(34,103 posts)of Sam since he left. It seems he went "poof"! It sounds like something he would do but even though we now have a Democrat for Governor our legislature is very out there, worse than before. They are still Brownbacking our budget etc. There are enough idiots there that this really does not have to come from anywhere but their devious, crooked little mind.

(67,101 posts)Kansas is a really nice place when politics are out ... most people don't realize IMO how nice Kansas is. It gets overshadowed by the dreadful GOP politics.

(34,103 posts)long line of them. I am going nowhere.
It is a nice and beautiful place aside from the stupidity that has been run through here by the Kochs for so damned long. Trying to bring it back. Slowly.

(5,398 posts)that might have some interesting implications.
if the comminity is a religion what right has the state to deny marriage?
as a religion, can homosexual "missionaries" be forbidden to seek converts?
and then there is the special relationship of religion ans taxes........

(34,103 posts)AFAIK this is nothing but bluster. but I have not checked it out with our organization yet.
Seems to me they cannot create a religion without those who would be relegated to it agree. Seems to me religious groups create themselves. Seems to me if there is a federal law the state will have some hoops to jump if they want to do this?
I do not know the ins and outs of all this but I can tell you that it will not go unchallenged.

(34,103 posts)I love NO. I would love to go back one day. The Jazz Festival is what would draw me. I have no desire to try to make it through Mardi Gras at this point in my life!

(34,103 posts)Enjoy! I had so much fun the year I went. There was the festival and our last night Bela Fleck and the Flecktones were playing in a venue not on festival grounds. It was really late at night but it was really fun.

(38,187 posts)So, because "hundreds of thousands" of tax payers thing we are immoral, they want to legislate draconian laws for the vast majority. Last I checked, there are five million people in NC, alone. So, those hundreds of thousands, still don't even make up 1/5. They want to legislate for the 1/5 and leave the other 4/5s under crap bigoted laws. See why I can't stand them? We have one here in NC who doesn't believe there should be laws about restaurant workers washing their hands after having a bowel movement. That gives you some idea of how the primordial ooze didn't ooze far enough to split the genes apart here. The intelligence quotient is in negative digits at this point with them....and we are told by the rest to pretend not to notice that.
I wish I had money. I wouldn't be a North Carolinian any more. I'd go somewhere nice and see more of a 60/40 ratio between hatemongers and non-hatemongers, as opposed to the extremist right wingers to normal people ratio coupled with the backward political power dynamic here in NC.
-Signed a lesbian still trapped in a gerrymandered district that defies logic. They put us in with the most extreme right wing parts of the most extreme right wing counties, bits of them, here and there. We don't even have a rep right now, because so many people were ignorant enough to hand over their absentee ballots to corrupt Republican political operatives who were openly breaking the law.
