Officiating at a gay marriage

I have often wondered how a gay couples refer to their partners. Seems that the terms husband and wife are being used, according to the gender, of course.

Thus, it was interesting to see a clip of Harris officiating at the first (I think) gay marriage in California:

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you spouses for life."

(Rhymes with the traditional husband and wife, I suppose).
