I've been reading this exchange between you and Pabs Sugenis and thought I'd stop by.

You and I disagree about the issue of tombstoning. If Skinner brought them back, that should be good enough reason for them to be eligible for leaderships roles in this group. Especially when they're asked to continue to put up with this kind of judgment without proper context. Skinner never mentioned "self-restraint" regarding those who were included in the mass tombstoning -- quiet the opposite actually.

I'll just add one little thing and go.

I agree wholeheartedly that those who hate DU shouldn't get the job. But I don't think that they will take the job either. And if they do and there is a problem I know that you have my and a lot of LGBT DUer's support in petitioning the Admins to remove them. I do understand your trepidation regarding this process though, and I think we would both agree that getting it right the first time would save us a LOT of trouble in the long run.

As for criteria for voting, I also agree. The Admins gave us very little to go on in terms of process for choosing... although I will duly note that for most groups it was enough. (Hell the ability to make polls would have been nice even.) I think in the end though that the discussion we've been having is a necessary one and maybe we can air out some of our bad feelings because of it. Hey, I can hope right?

We've had discussion going for several days spanning multiple threads on who should host the group... with a list so long already it was prudent we move forward. The names on the ballot are a list of EVERYONE who has asked to host and a few who have been suggested though may not have arrived at DU3 yet. Skinner has given the go ahead and pinned the thread to the top of the group for us. This will be the actual vote.

Sorry for any confusion, the whole process is very new to us all and we weren't given any format by which to make this decision so we are making it work as we go along.

I've just learned that, contrary to what I posted earlier, hosts of forums like this don't rotate off regularly. We might want to consider rotating our hosts, though. It might be a good idea to have term limits.

And I think that the suggestion of weighted voting is a good one.

or whatever they call it.

I will gladly volunteer to be one of the "Co Hosts."

I think the Master Host individual should be someone who spends quite a lot of time here. Maybe even someone who is retired and has no full time job. Or holds a job where they can easily keep an eye on the Group.

I'm happy with anyone on the current list in the OP. They would all be good choices. In addition to the ones already noted, I would add Prism, Maven, Chovexani and Mondo Joe. But I don't know how much time any of them spend here anymore.

130. I'm finding it very difficult to vote here.

My first impulse is to suggest that everyone who has volunteered (in other words, everyone on this list) be appointed to a host position.

Each of you brings unique strengths that I think would serve our community well, and there's no one for whom I'd cast a negative vote.

If I'm counting the edited list correctly, that would give us 12 hosts, which doesn't seem like too many to me, considering the number of hours in a day.

But... that said... I realize we're trying to narrow the field here, not hand out "Yay, Everybody!" certificates to every student in the class.

So I'll also offer my Top 5, with apologies in advance to anyone not on it. When it came time to whittle names down to my (self-imposed) limit of five, there were a couple of coin-tosses in there.

132. We're not sure how many hosts there will be yet...

But what we do have to go on is that we need a primary or master host... the one that will choose the initial set of other co-hosts. We're doing this because to get a first host you need to contact Skinner with a group consensus on who should be the primary/master/first host.

Their only special power is that they can remove other hosts below them by virtue of their longevity as host. So host 2 can't remove host 1 but host 1 can remove host 2... at least that is how it was described to us.

So all we're really voting for right now is the primary host... but everyone is encouraged to vote for as many people as they think are qualified so that after the primary host is elected they will have a good list of people to pull from if they chose to for the other hosts.

What I was looking for were people who are able to communicate clearly (on both "listening" and "speaking" ends) and to remain neutral and level headed in the midst of a lot of heat. That is the only way a host will survive what I expect to be some pretty rough waters for a while. My choices are mainly based on what I remember from a couple of years ago, when I was last really active here, (supplemented by a trip down memory lane in the DU2 group.)
