we lost a voice for women yesterday.

Mary Barnett was not widely known in the larger world, but she was a champion for women's rights, for choice, all of her 97 years. She was a fine role model, having chosen, as a young woman, to move across the country and work in DC rather than stay home and get married, as was expected.

She was tireless in her efforts to protect and promote choice, and active until only recently. I shall miss her terribly, miss her voice, her wisdom, her counsel, her courage, her humour, and her friendship.

requiescat in pace, dear friend. we will be sharing cake and coffee in your honour today.
