Grrrl Power

Hillary Clinton Inspires America’s Little Girls To Become . . . . . President

Hillary Clinton’s “glass ceiling” appearance by video at Night Two of the DNC reminded us that this is not exactly a small accomplishment for this creaky old republic of ours. She kept the statement brief and focused on the history-making. And damned if she didn’t get us a little misty-eyed, too, because Yr Wonkette is totally a sucker for certain forms of inspirational moments. Like that one up top.
What an incredible honor that you have given me. And I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet. Thanks to you and to everyone who’s fought so hard to make this possible. This is really your victory, this is really your night.
And if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next.

Nice Time: Little Girl Meets Hillary Clinton, Joyously Freaks Out
As we mentioned in our livebloog Tuesday, we couldn’t help but be reminded of the reaction of then 10-year-old Macy Friday, when she got to shake Clinton’s hand in 2014 when Hillary was in Denver to campaign for Mark Udall.

That's pretty adorable

As we said at the time, that right there is a genuine “I got a puppy, no, TWO puppies!” face. We’re going to bet Macy was watching Tuesday night.

This is a much younger presidential aspirant than Macy, but she’s pretty darn adorable, too: Video description: “My daughter and I watching and recording the DNC and she now believes she could be the next President of the United States!” And yes, cynics, maybe it was on Tivo, not live. We don’t know or care. It’s adorbs anyway.

The Clinton campaign was well aware of the moment, and prepped for it with a pretty slick web ad featuring girls reading their letters to Hillary Clinton, mashed into a single letter. We could have done with a bit less inspirational music, especially when it drowns out the kids, who are terrific:
Dear Mrs Clinton,
I’m so excited have a chance to become the first woman president because, from George Washington to Barack Obama, it is ridiculous that there has never been a female president before.
Forty-four boys is too many!
It will be hard work to be a grandma and president, but I know you can do it.
I hope you encourage people to help save the Earth.
Fight for world peace.
I would like to see an end to killing by guns.
You inspire me so that I can be who I want to be when I grow up.

And yes, we agree that the best line isn’t read aloud:

. . . .

(And now we prepare from all the whining from butthurt MRAs who say Clinton will never let boys accomplish anything ever again).

..that picture of her holding the coffee and shaking that girls hand is the first time in a looooooong while that I've smiled at something Hillary related. It just seems totally genuine and heartwarming on both of their parts.

As you can tell I'm a Hillary skeptic in general but damn if stuff like that doesn't continue to nudge me in the correct direction.
