About alerting on sexism and misogyny:

When you see a sexist or misogynist post or comment, remember to check the TOS violation box, that way, when the jury votes to let the comment stand, the alert still goes one level higher. The tolerance of sexism and misogyny by admins/MIRT is far lower than that of most juries.

that man was new and jumped right in with post one, denigrating women. i didnt know how you got that across when you are only allowed to do jury on one post. and that is for hide or leave, nothing about an unwelcome duer. i alert and jury allows. now what, lol. i handled it poorly. i get that. but, every step of the way, somehow, du comes thru, pretty much. and they did it this time.

i am going to go read a book.

The key is really to check the TOS box so it goes to someone whose job it is to look at more than the alerted post. So far, I've seen zero tolerance for TOS violations. Even long-time posters will get booted at the drop of a hat if they break the TOS.

- and we're probably not talking about the same one - there is no way to get to the malicious intruder removal team without succeeding on a jury alert.

The one I'm thinking about had no single post that would likely have made for a successful jury alert, especially given my experience with juries so far (as both alerter and alertee). The fact is still that the person is an obvious troll.

I guess I'll try alert, tick TOS (I'd been aware of this and have done it but not had any feedback from that yet; don't know whether one gets any), and put a prominent request that it also go to the MIR team.

Even if the jury does not hide it the Admins will still look at it. It's critical that you explain clearly in the alert why it is sexist or offensive. As we can see from the Beauty Pagent kerfluffle...not everyone has the same experience or historical reference that some of us 2 1/2 wavers have... Honestly I'm not sure the OP member really understood what he was walking into with that.... My 21 year daughter asked me a few years ago why I never put her in pagents. Of course I asked her if she was on drugs.

I think there are some valid points to third way philosophy....Just as there are some interesting things about Libertarian philosophy. When you first think about it there are some things that make a lot of sense....Then you think about Somalia....that Libertarian utopia...

how to use sexuality to get what you want in the work place. no holds bar, looks and behavior, use sex to get it.

There was a thread in GD which seemed to imply that women had all this 'power' because of their sexuality and they just needed to use it.

It's nothing new. The idea that men should be absolved from any responsibility for their own ethical behavior or indeed self-determination is an old saw and it's not going away anytime soon I'm sure.

I agree that it's inappropriate. I wouldn't say it makes me feel uneasy or unwelcome. I just think it's juvenile, but not in a funny way, in a pathetic way. I can't think of any male politicians who would get that type of treatment, either. Other than Silvio Berlusconi, and he would be posing in such a way intentionally, not doing something routine.

me feel unwelcome because it says to me that this is a place where it's okay to disrespect women. But you're right. It is very juvenile.

There's someone on the site with this photo in his signature line. I was not very surprised by that, I guess, but I am disappointed that it's apparently allowed on the DU. It's kind of sad really.

every female politician was reduced to a fuck. so often they would find a picture, hubby standing behind her, oh noes, being fucked from behind.

reducing even our female opponent to that, always, says how misogyny and sexism is embraced.

I've considered alerting on it but based on how that usually goes, I decided against it.
