Replacing the basement smoke detector batteries...

My nice neighbor from across the street is going to get a call.
I'm not willing to climb a ladder, and I'm not willing to ignore the dying battery.
Arthritis sucks.

1. I have the same problem. I finally just got rid of the damn smoke detectors...

One was at the top of the stairs to my basement. Only problem was that our stove was right next to the stairwell where the smoke detector was. The smoke detector went off all the time! At the time I couldn't figure out how to relocate them...

2. Yeah, I live in an apartment and I have to do it myself and they are not

allowed to stay while I do it because of some crap called liability so they/I just hope my lack of balance and arthritis does not allow me to fall. I live in a disability/senior complex so go figure that one out. My boyfriend can not do it as he is in Canada until the 14th of November. My other friend is 45 minutes away and has a job and does work after his job so uhmm yeah. The rest of my friends near me can't do it either. I used to ask my ex but since he got in a motorcycle accident he is no longer able to do that type of stuff. I hate disability.

7. They claim ten years because of lithium 9v. batteries. Might be worth looking into.

5. I have 10 foot ceilings

One smoke detector is on the ceiling of my bedroom.

I have been here two years and so far the batteries have held up.
I spoke with the apartment manager and she said maintenance would replace the battery for me when it's needed.

A month ago a crack appeared in the ceiling over my bathtub and water was dripping out the crack.
I put in a work order and it took one week for the maintenance man to show up, at which time the water had stopped dripping.

He said "Put in another work order if t starts dripping water again".

So ... I guess it'd take a week to replace the battery in a beeping smoke detector?

6. Maybe remind your building manager of their promise, and hint that if they can't get

to it right away, when needed, you'd just have to call the local fire department. And maybe the Health Department for good measure.
