just saw something on Shark Tank that I thought was a GREAT Idea: plant based cheese products!

... it doesn't have the cholesterol content of cheese and is much lower in sodium. A great idea. NOt available everywhere yet. A few Whole Foods stores carry the products but only in a few places for now..Texas, Okla., Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.

but you can't do mac n cheese or pizza with them because they don't melt like dairy cheeses. They've cracked a lot of the taste but not the texture.

The tofu cream cheese is excellent as is the vegan parmagiana. The rest is OK for cold cheese on a cold bologna sandwich.

This brand's creamy and creamy/spicy varieties would fill a lot of niches and should take off really well.

But Shark Tank? Really? Ew. You must be exquisitely bored today.

Because there is no direct connection between the amount of cholesterol you eat and the concentration of cholesterol in your blood. In most people, eating cholesterol has little or no effect on blood cholesterol. In a small percent of the population, eating cholesterol does in fact increase the concentration of cholesterol in the blood — but it increases the "good" cholesterol. This is a very stubborn diet myth which Big Pharma very much wants to keep alive.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/02/10/feds-poised-to-withdraw-longstanding-warnings-about-dietary-cholesterol/

The nation’s top nutrition advisory panel has decided to drop its caution about eating cholesterol-laden food, a move that could undo almost 40 years of government warnings about its consumption.

The group’s finding that cholesterol in the diet need no longer be considered a “nutrient of concern” stands in contrast to the committee’s findings five years ago, the last time it convened. During those proceedings, as in previous years, the panel deemed the issue of excess cholesterol in the American diet a public health concern.

The finding follows an evolution of thinking among many nutritionists who now believe that, for healthy adults, eating foods high in cholesterol may not significantly affect the level of cholesterol in the blood or increase the risk of heart disease.

The greater danger in this regard, these experts believe, lies not in products such as eggs, shrimp or lobster, which are high in cholesterol, but in too many servings of foods heavy with saturated fats, such as fatty meats, whole milk, and butter.

.. I don't know if cheese lands in the category of being "heavy with saturated fats".

.. unfortunately, I have a real hankering for red meat.
