Does anyone have the name of an appeite booster. I find my appetite lagging as I get older

and even tho I take a multivitamin every day I think I should have a booster. I've talked about my appetite decrease as I age and we both agree it's because my sense of smell and taste are diminished due to age. My weight has remarkably not dropped.

This is a concern.

require less calories. That is a big generalization. I have no idea how much you are eating and if it is a big change it could be something serious. If you can see a doctor that would be ideal. If cannabinoids are legal where you are they do stimulate appetite.

I'll ask him about cannbiods in our state of CT.

Also, I have noticed that oversizing food servings is now a common thing. On Sunday we get bagels with cream cheese from Dunkin Donuts and they are huge and bulging with cream cheese. If I can eat half of one I'm doing good.

They can check a number of nutritional levels in your blood directly or indirectly.
I do this at least annually and use it to guide what supplements I take.
No Hocus Pocus or witch doctoring there. Pure science.

As well, you should have your doctor investigate the appetite loss to make sure something else isn't causing it. Early detection saves lives.

My wife is a terrible eater. If I can't get anything else in her, she'll have an Ensure or Boost - a liquid meal. I'm not keen on it but they're better than her not eating and better than pure junk food like chips.

To some extent, you are fortunate because you cannot have a terrible weight problem as your metabolism seems to be keeping pace with your age/activity. Most people have worse problems with their food consumption.

Take care.

It was coined in the 20's as a way to further discrimination of mexican immigrants. It was a scary thing mexicans smoked. Be careful of mexicans, they smoke marijuana.......

But yes, Cannabis can be an effective appetite stimulant. It will also help with arthritis, multiple neurological conditions, and may help slow Alzheimer's.

Wikipedia leads with this sentence under Etimology of the word...

The term, originally spelled variously as "marihuana", "mariguana", etc., originated in Mexican Spanish.[9]

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term may come from the Nahuatl mallihuan, meaning "prisoner".[8] Author Martin Booth notes that this etymology was popularized by Harry J. Anslinger in the 1930s, during his campaigns against the drug.[10]

It does offer other possible uses, but it is a real root of the useage.

And from leafly...

The Mexican Revolution
1840-1900:

Prior to 1910, “marijuana” didn’t exist as a word in American culture. Rather, “cannabis” was used, most often in reference to medicines and remedies for common household ailments. In the early 1900s, what have now become pharmaceutical giants—Bristol-Meyer’s Squib and Eli Lilly—used to include cannabis and cannabis extracts in their medicines.

During this time, Americans (particularly elite Americans) were going through a hashish trend. Glamorized by literary celebrities such as Alexander Dumas, experimenting with cannabis products became a fad among those wealthy enough to afford imported goods.

1910:

Between the years of 1910 and 1920, over 890,000 Mexicans legally immigrated into the United States seeking refuge from the wreckage of civil war. Though cannabis had been a part of U.S. history since the country’s beginnings, the idea of smoking the plant recreationally was not as common as other forms of consumption. The idea of smoking cannabis entered mainstream American consciousness after the arrival of immigrants who brought the smoking habit with them.

1913:

The first bill criminalizing the cultivation of “locoweed” was passed in California. The bill was a major push from the Board of Pharmacy as a way to regulate opiates and psychoactive pharmaceuticals, and seemingly did not stem from the “reefer madness” or racialized understanding of “marijuana” that paved the way to full-on prohibition in the 1930s.

The Aftermath
1930s:

The Great Depression had just hit the United States, and Americans were searching for someone to blame. Due to the influx of immigrants (particularly in the South) and the rise of suggestive jazz music, many white Americans began to treat cannabis (and, arguably, the Blacks and Mexican immigrants who consumed it) as a foreign substance used to corrupt the minds and bodies of low-class individuals.

In the time just before the federal criminalization of the plant, 29 states independently banned the herb that came to be known as “marijuana.”

Harry Anslinger:

It would not be an overstatement to say that Harry Anslinger was one of the primary individuals responsible for creating the stigma surrounding cannabis. Hired as the first director of the recently created Federal Bureau of Narcotics in 1930, Anslinger launched a vigilant campaign against cannabis that would hold steady for the three decades he remained in office.

A very outspoken man, Anslinger used the recent development of the movie theater to spread messages that racialized the plant for white audiences. In one documented incident, Anslinger testified before Congress, explaining:

“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind… Most marijuana smokers are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage.”

So google will turn up all kinds of things, but facts are facts regardless.

I thought posts in recent days calling out "name shaming" over that abcde kid were going too far. Now this. Me and the stoners I've known associate marijuana with good feelings and nothing to do with racism. And yes I've been aware of Anslinger and racism against Mexicans ever since I was a teenager. Doesn't correlate.

would impact that for the better. Consult your doctor about safely increasing your physical activity. Also, try some cuisine that you haven't had before, or isn't your usual. Change up your staples. Increase the quality of the food you do consume. Everything fresh, organic if possible, high quality. Since you're eating less, the expense might not be too limiting.

eating the right amount of calories. After the age of 30, we lose 3-5% of our muscle mass every decade. Less muscle means we burn fewer calories every second of the day so we don't need as many calories. The reason so many people gain weight as they age is they eat like they did when they were young. Actually, we should lose weight as we age due to muscle loss.

Certain strains are better at appetite stimulation than others and may have less psychoactive impact, if that is an issue.

The Leafly website has a pretty comprehensive library of strains and their effects (positive and negative) should you decide to go that route.

Anti-hypertensives can also effect sense of smell which goes along with decreased appetite, as you pointed out. If you are taking one talk to your HCP about changing or lowering it.

One of the things he really did enjoy was stopping for an Arby's jamocha shake. Probably not the most healthy thing in the world, but he enjoyed it. Yes, he did take vitamins. But I am glad that he had his own special treat. Bless his memory. If mentioning a specific product is not cool I apologize.
