Going From Eat To Live To Intermittent Fasting And Keto Diet When I Eat Any Suggestions?

Type 2 diabetic, and numbers are under control, but want to get a1c under 6. My friend encourages fasting, but I read you can fast, and then go keto when you eat, and do even better.

Fasting is great, and I really am not hungry. I have a cup of broth once or twice a day to help, but can go 18 to 24 hours without eating easily.

Anyone else fasting, and doing keto?

But he was obsessed with a high protein /red meat /eggs diet.
This year, he had a "minor" heart attack at 50 while running (felt like someone was "standing on his chest".)
He had to have a heart stent put in.

Does 12 hours partly while sleeping count? If so, I do!

Some days we just don't eat for several hours upon waking. Like till mid-afternoon. Not entirely clear if this counts. Sounded like good reasoning, anyway (gut biome). We are active and healthy weight for our age.

I’m read more and more articles indicating you can only do so much with diet. When consistent exercise is introduced, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure levels drop significantly. Your dietary goals are much easier to accomplish when accompanied by regular exercise.

Started jogging a couple of months ago. 3 miles 2 to 3 times a week. Not fast, 15 minute miles. 69 years old and a doctor told me 9 years ago I'd never run again because of a knee injury. Knee feels great. Got blood tested last week. LDL down to 88. Try to cut out most refined carbs. Need to get back on 16/8 fast, hard to do during holidays.

Intermittent Fasting eating window 1:00 to 7:00 PM. Lost about 50 lbs from 220 at 5' 9", down to 175. I'm still losing fat now but adding muscle weight so the scale is moving around on me. I haven't looked or felt this good in years. I'm pretty fat adapted now in that I can go on two or three day water only fasts with ease. Make sure you take electrolytes or you'll get typical fasting symptoms. I eat keto too but time it for going into and out of multi-day fasts. They say eating keto long duration is not nutritious. I'm also doing it for the testosterone and HGH spike that happens during fasts and workout in a fasted state. Look up autophagy... It's an amazing cell recycling and stem cell regeneration process that occurs too!

The body is self healing if we get out of the way and stop feeding it so much. Look up Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. Valter Longo on fasting and diets. Join some of the many Facebook groups on fasting for support and recipe ideas.

I have been doing 12 to 18 hour fasts, and feel good, but heard I should do keto too. Need to lose visceral fat. I have been without any carbs (mostly) for 2 days and feel real good.

Started not eating a lot of starches. Using almond flour I eat a lot of keto but not always, cut down on sugar and walk at least 2 miles almost every day. A year later in November my A1C was5.0 and the rest of my blood work was very good.

Started eating better, and walking 2 to 3 miles most nights. With Metformin. Now want to lose more weight, and reduce insulin resistance. Started IF and Keto. After 2 days no carbs I feel real good. I can tell my body is not running on sugar. A different kind of energy.

I've done different types of IF and what works for me is to stop eating after 7p and not eating till 11am. That's 16 hrs off and 8 on... I mostly eat a vegan diet. Then again I've never had a blood sugar problem.
Below is some web pages from Dr Greger. He is a medical doctor that combs the MEDICAL journals that use real science to prove what works... YMMV, works for me.. Pushing 70 and my BP and blood work if fine...

If you don't want to watch the vid just hit the transcript tab. All the science is under the "sources cited" tab.
