This Genetic Mutation Makes People Feel Full -- All the Time.

Two new studies confirm that weight control is often the result of genetics, not willpower.

Mutations in the MC4R gene usually lead to obesity by preventing a sense of fullness. But one such mutation leaves people disinterested in eating, scientists report.

'The study subjects had been thin all their lives, and not because they had unusual metabolisms. They just did not care much about food.

They never ate enormous amounts, never obsessed on the next meal. Now, a group of researchers in Britain may have found the reason.

The people carry a genetic alteration that mutes appetite. It also greatly reduces their chances of getting diabetes or heart disease.

The scientists’ study, published on Thursday in the journal Cell, relied on data from the U.K. Biobank, which includes a half million people aged 40 to 69. Participants have provided DNA samples and medical records, and have allowed researchers to track their health over years.'>>>

I had a few friends that were slim, not skinny. On numerous times they told me they just did not care about food. When young they had to be almost forced to eat. One guy I remember when he got on a project he would go for almost 24 hrs with out food.
I'm curious if this is a genetic abnormality. Back in the stone age if you were not obsessed with food you or your clan would die off... My family has always been chubby to obese...
I always think about food accept when I'm sick..

He loved food though and he remembered every meal he ever ate at a restaurant or while traveling. He appreciated good quality food and skilled chefs. He just never overate and he ate slowly. Meanwhile my mom is just the opposite after she hit 55.

it is the past tense and he just died suddenly three weeks ago) an only child so he wasn't in any rush. He was as healthy as a horse and died in his sleep out of the blue. We thought that he would outlive my mom since she isn't as healthy and is overweight.

I am thin but have to watch every calorie or I balloon really fast.

I miss him...we all hate the GOP in my very Dem family. He taught me that they are "greedy hypocrites".
