Measles Outbreak

New York City and certain counties have passed legislation that promotes vaccination and/or self-quarantine to curtail the outbreak of measles. And there have been lawsuits in protest, claiming religious freedom, freedom of assembly, personal liberty, etc.

Haven't these issues been addressed more than a century ago? "Typhoid Mary" (Mary Mallon) was initially quarantined in a government institution and left against directions. She continued to spread typhoid, partially by being a cook at several establishments. She made similar arguments (not the religious one) and lost. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3959940/

While nobody is advocating for measles patients to be removed from their families and communities, this is a crisis, with unintended consequences of some children dying and the illness spreading to other unvaccinated people.
