Finished "Lillie" -- very nice for those of us with an appetite for 19th-century dramas

It's about Lillie Langtry.

It was sufficiently well-done that nothing gives away the fact that it was made in 1978. (You know how sometimes you can tell, because the hairdos look just a bit too much like the era the show was produced, or something?)

Every few episodes, I went to Wiki to look up who all the various characters were, and followed links around to see what other scandals the royals got mixed up in, who else was Oscar Wilde's lover, and of course, which prince is which (they were hard to sort out!).

I have rented "South Riding." We'll see how that one goes!

1. I enjoyed South Riding a lot.

Only 3 eps, but it is a complete story. Set in the 1930's. I think you'll like it - though it's not your usual Victorian period.

6. If you enjoyed Lillie....then "Dutchess of Duke Street" is a reverie!

It's incredible. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it... and it's based on a true story.

The reviews on Netflix give more detail. But, it's just incredibly beautifully done. The interaction between the characters and the fact that they morph throughout the story...so that you become intertwined with their lives so that they become a part of you.

It's a great "get away" from the current world we live in...but, with lots of "class warfare" and human condition indentifying.

I have loved it since it first showed on PBS way awhile back. Bought it and when I need to go away...and feel there is some kind of humanity of spirit that abides in us all...I rewatch it...and it's a long series given the timeframe that it's portraying.

5. I've noticed that our television has a sort of sepia tone-ish quality to picture lately.

And the local nooz guys have a kind of British accent. Not a modern one, mind you, but a somewhat archaic one.

I can't imagine why any of this is happening. Anyone have a clue?
