"Red State" (2011) (Streaming)
This is a horror movie with one surprise element after another.
Three teenage boys, in their quest to meet with an older woman who advertised for a sexual encounter on the internet, become prisoners of a fundamentalist church group, led by a crazed preacher (portrayed by Michael Parks). Michael Parks was excellent in this!
The Westboro Baptist Church is clearly implicated because of the funeral protest scenes, but the movie inserts a very creepy plot that made me wonder to what extent those twisted societal misfits would actually go to rid their world of those they despise.
There are also shades of Waco near the end, also. With today's Patriot Act, this was the point in the movie that was most unsettlingly realistic. John Goodman plays the government agent (the back of his jacket was labeled as "agent"; no "FBI" printed on it) in charge of his unit.
There are lots of twists & turns in this one, with lots of suspense. I highly recommend it, but with a warning that this is not for the squeamish.
