Mike Bone - the rapper duo from Reservation Dogs

I love the characters Mose and Mekko in the FX/Hulu series Reservation Dogs, portrayed by real-life duo Lil Mike and Funny Bone (collectively known as Mike Bone). They remind me of the jesters in some of Shakespeare's plays, showing up to offer oblique commentary that may or may not relate to the main action of the episode.

Until the series comes back with Season 2, we can content ourselves with rewatching Season 1 or maybe checking out some Mike Bone recordings and videos! (I'll add the disclaimer that hip-hop is generally Not My Thing, but I can appreciate exceptional artists like these guys. Their humor and positivity are refreshing.) Here's a sampling:

I don't have Hulu. Beyond the hilarious trailer, I bet it's full of seriously funny deadpan humor because Taika Waititi is involved. He's responsible for both Wellington Paranormal and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (and he's the villain in Free Guy). He may eventually control all of entertainment but I would be okay with that.

on many levels. True, it is hilarious -- full of well-drawn, quirky characters and wacky but convincing situations. There are also some poignant moments and storylines that get a bit dark, but the emotion is always earned and natural.

The show has a mostly Native cast, worthy of note in itself, and is filmed entirely in Oklahoma. It feels more like an indie film than a TV show, and welcomes the viewer into a world that, like so many great comedies, is based on a few simple elements that serve as the springboard for a ride that's fun and rewarding. The writing is some of the best I've seen in a TV series lately.

I honestly would recommend subscribing to Hulu for one month just so you can watch all the episodes -- it's that good.

I've seen and enjoyed Hunt for the Wilderpeople, but not Wellington Paranormal or Free Guy. More goodies for our watch list -- thanks!

It very much hit all the beats for me. Script, acting, humor, drama and direction… All of it top notch. Can’t wait for season two.
