"House of Flying Daggers" now streaming and DVD

This was a limited release movie which we managed to see when it came out. We bought the DVD we loved it so and now that it's on Neflix hopefully others will enjoy it. It's gorgeous cinematography and intriguing plot made it one we wanted to see again and again.

If you enjoy or have never seen balletic martial arts in a movie (NOT Jackie Chan's kind of stuff) in the mood for an incredible love story along with breathtaking scenery we found this a wonderful "escape" movie and honestly I think the most beautiful movie (colors, scenery, choreography) I've ever seen. The opening scenes are breathtaking.

---------------
Near the end of the Tang Dynasty, police deputies Jin and Leo tangle with Mei, a dancer suspected of having ties to a revolutionary faction known as the House of Flying Daggers, which steals from the rich and gives to the poor.

House of Flying Daggers is a 2004 wuxia film directed by Zhang Yimou. It differs from other wuxia films in that it is more of a love story than a straight martial arts film.

The use of strong colours is again a signature of Zhang Yimou's work. Several scenes in a bamboo forest completely fill the screen with green. Near the end of the film, a fight scene is set in a blizzard. The actors and blood are greatly highlighted on a whiteout background. Another scene uses bright yellow as a colour theme. The costumes, props, and decorations were taken almost entirely from Chinese paintings of the period, adding authenticity to the look of the film[citation needed].

The film opened in limited release within the United States on December 3, 2004, in New York City and Los Angeles, and opened on additional screens throughout the country two weeks later.

The film was chosen as China's entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for the year 2004; but was not nominated in that category though it was nominated for the Cinematography.

happened with that? ... It was there ...

Anyway I went back over there and sure enough..THEY NOW CLAIM...it's only DVD.

I hope it's a GLITCH in their software.

Well...anyway...it's a beautiful (out of the box..something you'd never think to watch film) ....so whichever way you can find it...

I know lots of DU'ers gave up their DVD service with Netflix...so if it's not STREAMING then you will miss it.

Maybe Amazon or Blockbuster on Line? (I don't use either..but maybe if some of you have accounts there you can Stream it?

I think what happened (if it was real) was that I was searching for another "Daggers Movie"..(which turned out to be something we didn't want to watch)... and, I perhaps confused the "Instant Watch/DVD" for that movie with "House of the Flying Daggers."

Sorry...My Mistake.

Anyway....if you can find it STREAMING from something other than NETFLIX...please watch. I think many DU'ers would enjoy this film...wherver you can retrieve it from.

DVD though...on Netflix for those who still have that ability.

there on Netflix or wherever you search to find it...Make sure it's the film directed by Zhang Yimou and not the others listed on Netflix or other sites!
