Recommended Documentary: "They Killed Sister Dorothy"

Narrated by Martin Sheen it's a story about a nun who went to Brazil to help the indigenous people there. She was killed for defending a project that was designed to give workers plots of land to work. The idea was to engage in sustainable farming in the Amazon that left 80% of the forest left untouched. On the other side are the very few, very rich (sound familiar?) ranchers who are destroying the rain forest for cheap grazing land for their cattle.

Overall it's amazing how much we have in common with the unrepresented peoples around the world who are being exploited because of greed. Just because we're in a First World country doesn't make the injustices any less heinous.

Anyway, I thought it was a fascinating documentary.

While searching for it on Netflix, I found this. Sounds like exactly the kind of doc I love. Thanks!

While working in Brazil to help the poor and preserve the rain forest, Sister Dorothy Stang, a 73-year-old Catholic nun from Ohio, was shot six times at point-blank range. This documentary follows the real-life drama at the trials of her killers. By exploring the events surrounding Sister Dorothy's death and the forces that opposed her crusade, the film sheds light on the larger battle being waged to determine the future of the rain forest.
