The Slap

This is the original Australian, 8 part, mini series based on an award winning book by Christos Tsiolkas.

It explores the repercussions to family and friends of a man hitting a child in the heat of a moment. Excellent story. Excellent acting. This is well worth the watch.

I read that there is an American remake currently running. Knowing how we yanks muck up perfectly good shows, I would recommend watching the Australian version even if you are watching and like the American version.

Just a bit more about the production. Each episode opens with a narrator, obviously reading from the book. Some narration happens within the episode as well. Another interesting technique is not translating the Greek conversation the parents have. They slip into English just often enough that you can follow the essence of the conversation without understanding the language. And I have to say, the Aussies excel at opening credits. I'd watch it just for that. By the way, Essie Davis of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is part of the cast.
