Boo, hiss... Netflix is canceling Sense8.

Netflix stated on its official Facebook page: “To our Sense8 family... We’ve seen the petitions. We’ve read the messages. We know you want to #RenewSense8. We wish we could #BringBackSense8 for you.

It continued: “The reason we've taken so long to get back to you is because we've thought long and hard here at Netflix to try to make it work but unfortunately we can't.

“Thank you for watching and hope you'll stay close with your cluster around the world.”

I wonder if it was a cost issue.

It got off to a slow, tedious start and I didn't have the patience to continue beyond the first couple of episodes. I wanted something with more of a science fiction feel, but Sense8 was more of a serial drama for my tastes. It also was too coy by far and left so many dangling threads that the plot became muddled. The show was always teasing the viewer with hints that something momentous coming in the next episode, or the one after that, but delivering nothing. I won't miss it.

I found it intriguing from start to finish. And it was just opening up the grander possibilities of more clusters, a larger community of people like them. So much possibility and Netflix is going to throw it all away. Reminds me of another sci-fi series cancelled in its prime... Firefly. So sad in both cases.

Oh well. At least we've got reality. Nobody can cancel that. Hmmm.... sorta.

Straczinski has always had tough times getting projects finished. He fought for years and finally was able to complete Babylon 5. His follow up series, Crusade, was thoroughly botched by the network and then cancelled. I had great hopes for Sense8. I thought that also having the Wachowskis on board it would have gone far.
The 3 of them are story tellers and I am almost certain they had an arc that would span several seasons. I guess most people are unable to get enthused if the story doesn't move at rocket speed.

5. I enjoyed Sense8 very much. It was gorgeous, but probably overly ambitious for a TV series.

Location shooting, as if every episode is a James Bond blockbuster, is expensive.

I deeply appreciated that Sense8 didn't look like Pysch, which had Vancouver and nearby locations standing in for Santa Barbara and the rest of the world. And I'm especially sensitive to Southern California locations standing in for France or the U.S. Midwest, or Toronto or Quebec standing in for Los Angeles or New York. (But San Francisco probably suffers the worst abuse...)

Like Sense8, "The West Wing" had a huge roster of characters, but even on West Wing location shoots were extremely limited.

I guess I'll accept Netflix at their word. I can't say the same about Fox and Firefly or NBC and Star Trek
