Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon prime?
I would like to supplement satellite with a subscription service. Im not really interested in very many movies- Im more the hour long drama type. Although, I would like to see the movie Bitter Harvest. So, what subscription would be the best for me?

(10,121 posts)2day guarantee. You have to pay annual upfront however. I have Netflix streaming only also. I probably watch more amazon content. My daughter is more of a Netflix gal. More kids shows
On edit: Bitter Harvest in not avail on Netflix streaming, but is on amazon prime. Netflix has Stranger Things Season 2 starting this weekend though....good luck whatever you decide.

(9,352 posts)Get all of my old series that I enjoyed and can do binging.
Have to say that I also have Amazon Prime and do t really find it that wonderful. I dont order that much stuff and their movies are pretty lame. Thinking about dumping it.
Decided not to add Netflix. Just not interested.
Have to add that I also have HBO just for Bill Maher and John Oliver. Worth every penny.

(15,805 posts)Both offer subscriptions to premium channels and a wide selection of movies and TV shows, but Amazon has a lot more features that may interest you. Besides the videos to watch for free, rent or buy, you also get music and video games. Prime Pantry is good for household shopping. There's Prime-exclusive clothing and accessories, too. Free same-day delivery and one-day shipping is very handy. There's photo storage and backup to keep your images safe, and Prime Reading includes free books (even with audio), and magazines with Kindle Unlimited. Shareable Benefits lets you share access to some of your Prime benefits with family or friend. They also have discounts for some restaurants, but not in all areas.
Netflix has a lot of new, original content with some really topnotch shows. I also like Netflix for vintage films and nostalgic TV shows, and lots of foreign films.

(29,194 posts)probably going to drop Hulu.
Still, got rid of cable TV ($220 a month included HBO) and replaced with Xfinity Internet only (100 Mbps, 1000 GB per month) and with Netflix and Amazon Prime... total is around $65 per month.
I can drop that by $10 a month by purchasing my own cable modem.

(7,820 posts)And there are things on both I would hate to give up. I watch Netflix more, and think they have some great original programming. I gave up on Hulu. Wasnt tending to watch. I have been getting together with a friend who does to watch Handmaids Tale.
And in case that wasnt enough- HBO has some amazing series and you can get their whole library with their subscription service.

(666 posts)Mainly for the original show Atlanta at the moment. I'm keeping Netflix for season 2 of Stranger Things, but might cancel after that. With Amazon Prime you get the free two day shipping (sometimes) and a ton of free streaming music, also I think efree e-books. Each has something slightly different to offer.

(4,909 posts)Still paying under half what we did for DirecTV (not counting cost of Prime since I use it and got it primarily for the shipping).
They are all different animals. Hulu is great for current TV (pay the extra $4 for no commercials) and has some really good original content. Netflix is solid for movies and older series and also good original content. Prime is the one I would dump first if it wasn't for the shipping.
Forgot, sharing CBS All Access with a friend so we can watch the new Star Trek (that's only a couple bucks, though).

(4,909 posts)I can just do a month of HBO and then a month of Showtime and then take months off.

(68,539 posts)channel. They have FUBO to which is good on sports and has some channels not found elsewhere.

(4,909 posts)I like Playstations much more. Though, in fairness, I switched from Roku to Firestick, so that might have a lot to do with the UI. Also, when I was on Sling, they didn't even have a DVR option and Playstation has it for Free. That being said, it is all about the channel lineups you want. Both Sling and Playstation have AMC which is a must have for me. Hallmark, not so much. Though I understand having a "must have."
Good news is I can try out Sling any time I want and just drop Playstation if it gets horrible. I have a friend that does Hulu for live TV and she likes it. Though no AMC, so....

(4,909 posts)After we dumped Sling and then moved to Firestick, I read that none of the app writers give a crap about Roku. So when they update their UI, Roku is at the bottom of the list or not on the list. Apple TV and Fire are the two they work on the most. So sling might be better on Fire. Playstation is frustrating on the one Roku we will have on our small kitchen TV I watch when cooking.

(68,539 posts)spinoff ...the name escapes me.
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,909 posts)Yup, it was the Walking Deads and Better Call Saul that made me want AMC. My other problem was NFL football. I can't get locals even with a semi-good antenna and even if I did, the football team I follow isn't local. So Playstation is adding local channels. I fixed my NFL needs with a good VPN and a subscription to a Europe-based NFL subscription. Sketchy perhaps, but I'l still paying for it and not pirating it, so that eases my conscience somewhat.

(68,539 posts)per month for two months and I hear you can get direct tv football thing even if you are in the country now.
Cuthbert Allgood
(4,909 posts)to get the football. Or some nonsense.
I ended up paying a couple hundred dollars, but I get every football game. For me, that's worth it. And still cheaper than cable.

(5,995 posts)Use Netflix more, but also have Acorn to watch UK/Australia/NZ/Canada shows. Tend to watch mysteries & legal dramas, but Doc Martin makes it all worthwhile.
