(34,120 posts)Ever since I found out that Acorn has exclusive rights to the last two seasons of Doc Martin. Apparently they also have a ninth season coming up sometime this year.

(34,120 posts)The deciding factor - 27 series of Classic Doctor Who! Plus all the old Britcoms I used to watch on Georgia Public TV over antenna.
My big problem is that the LG Smart TV in the living room does not have access to either of those streaming services. I'll have to buy another Roku to put on it. Not a big deal since the Roku has a much better menu than the one on the LG.

(6,568 posts)I use both Hulu and Netflix (along with Amazon Prime). Prime and Hulu have a lot of overlap. It's mostly worth what I pay a month, compared to what my cable bill used to be.

(34,195 posts)That's how it seemed to me in the past.
And DVD mail service was very erratic.
Sometimes it took 10 days between videos.

(47,209 posts)I do online searches for best movies and series on Amazon becasue their interface is so awful its impossible to find new stuff. Its a good search to do if youre looking for a certain genre on a streaming service.

(791 posts)Both are good value for the content they provide. I do feel they are more leaning towards series than movies but there is always something new you can find.

(34,195 posts)Rarely see anything worth watching.
And they show the same movies over and over.

(791 posts)They have a very good back catalogue and to be fair John Oliver and Bill Maher are worth the free trial period alone. You can binge watch plenty on there but I am think Netflix does slightly edge it.
I guess much depends on what your taste is too.

I've heard that there is more content on Streaming (Netflix) than DVD, or more things avail on streaming than DVD.
There are a TON of good things to watch. I do Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu (only because of the Handmaid's Tale)
I lean towards Sci-Fi an historical dramas a bit, but I dislike gory violence just for the sake of Gory violence, here are some from my watch list:
The Americans
Sense8
The OA
The Last Kingdom
Bloodline
Marco Polo
Orange is the New Black
Wentworth
Call the Midwife
The Magicians
Travelers
Versailles
Land Girls
Redroad (Jason Momoa!)
Frontier (Jason Momoa!)
Jane the Virgin (light comedy)
Glitch (Australian)
The Crown
Anne with an E
Alias Grace
Stranger Things
The Originals (best Vampire series ever)

(8,543 posts)The best way to find out what video streaming service would work best for you might be to try each of them for a few weeks - if you don't like one, simply cancel before any payments are due.
My 2¢.

(14,270 posts)There are a lot of HBO series. There are tons of PBS documentaries. There is quite a bit of original programming. I have also been pleasantly surprised at the movie selection.
