Finally - a Woody Allen movie that felt like one of his better oldies - Midnight in Paris **** 1/2

Having loved Annie Hall, Manhattan, Radio Days and Hanna and her Sisters....many of Woody's recent flicks left us a bit cold.

We watched the DVD of Midnight in Paris tonight - typically wordy/talky - but it had a nice pace, wonderful message, great acting and a delightfully surprising plot twist.

Very enjoyable!

maybe, maybe not - Allen's films really are hit and miss with people, for unknown reasons - NRaleighLiberal Feb 2012 #2
I liked it. But it has a bit of a plausibility stretch as to that couple being together at all. alphafemale Feb 2012 #3

Saw it on the plane to Paris last Oct and found it so/so. I wanted to like it, was very excited to see it listed, the backdrop and all. Maybe it was because I was on a plane

my daughter hated it...and we typically are pretty close on movies. Just one of those things!

We didn't like Vicki Christina Barcelona very much, or Match Point - both got great reviews and we had friends and family that liked them.

I think Allen's movies really do depend on one's particular frame of mind when watching, as well.

There is zilch chemistry and they have nothing in common.

I enjoyed the various artists from the era being depicted.
