It is a very good movie and Gary Oldman's portrayal of Churchill was absolutely deserving of the Best Actor Oscar.

But...

And you knew there would be a but.

The movie takes great liberties with historical accuracy. In particular, the ride on the Underground is entirely invented and, worse than that, manages to whitewash Churchill's racist tendencies. Churchill was also an unabashed proponent of the British Empire. Certainly, Britain needed him in 1940 and his views were acceptable, if not mainstream, at the time. But I did not see a need to use the film to make Churchill into something he wasn't using that sequence.

when I heard about the underground scene I was crushed. They didn't need to make that up. Nor hide the racism.
