...that make cancer patients susceptible to bad luck? Lord, what a day!

Last night was another poop storm for Carol, up every hour to the potty. Nothing much more than Ensure and water, so I'm guessing you gals know what I'm talking about. Two nights in a row, no sleep for me.....again. I had planned to put Carol in an assisted living facility today for a few days so I could get caught up on my sleep. Expensive, but much needed. So, we had to go to the hospital for a blood draw this morning, which is a pretty good task as she is so weak. I was dreading it after another sleepless night.

Around 5 am this morning, Carol was having difficulty breathing. I was concerned, and thinking about calling an ambulance to take her to the ER, but she thought we should give it a little while to see if it would get better. I was checking in on her every 10 minutes or so to make sure she was okay. In between, I was emailing a friend of hers to tell her of the plan. Then, about 6 am, I heard a thud....Carol had gotten out of bed..on her own...and fell. She had fractured her shoulder! There was no way I was getting her up, so I called 911 and it was off to the hospital. They immobilized it and now we have to go see an orthopedic surgeon.

SO, I called a wheelchair van to take her to the assisted living facility and got her set up there for a few days so I could get some rest. I guess there is really no way one person can give 24/7 care. Now, this complicates everything. I could barely handle her by myself before this, and now, it will be even more difficult.

There is so much more to the events that happened today, but I'm not a novelist. Suffice it to say ....it sucked.

Don't feel guilty, you have been her only caregiver, and you need a break. I'm so sorry about her fall, it's the last thing you both need to contend with right now. Just get the rest you need, knowing she's being taken care of.

Is there anyone in your family or a friend that Carol trusts to come and help you out for a little while? I know how much I depended on Tim when I was in treatment. It took a long time for me to realie we needed more help. Please get some rest. I will add more tomorrow.

One person cannot do it all in circumstances like this. Promise me that you will get some rest. Do not feel obligated to be at the care center all the time. This is your recovery period as well as Carol's. I hate to be a nag, but you sound so much like me when I was caring for my husband after a surgery. Take care, cmd

I am so sorry ! When it rains, it pours.
I am glad she is in the facility now so she can have round the clock care where she can be monitored and you can also get some much needed rest !

6. God bless you Uben. I remember this time last year when I was hospital in ICU and

then when I went home, I was unable to walk or even get myself off the commode without help. You're doing to best thing for the both of you and I don't want you to feel bad for asking for help. If you get exhausted and sick yourself, what good can you do for her?
