in crack pot medical advice. i know i am not. if you want that kind of info the health forum, which is the proper place to discuss symptoms and treatments, if full of that sort of thing. or there is alternative healing, too.

about discouraging the wooheads that occasionally wander in here since we're all too damned sick to use anything but real medicine.

They might post nonsense once but they rarely come back to do it twice.

Magnesium is Vital for Good Health
NaturalNews) Very few people are aware of how vital magnesium is for overall health. After oxygen, water, and basic food, magnesium may be the most important element needed by our bodies, activating over 300 different biochemical reactions necessary for your body to function properly. The U.S. minimum RDA for magnesium is about 320 mg per day for women and more than 400 mg per day for men, while optimum daily amounts are closer to 500 to 700 mg per day - yet studies show that most people regularly take in about half of that and that over 8 out of 10 people do not take enough daily magnesium for even the minimum daily amounts recommended. Recent research has revealed that this lack of magnesium may put your heart - and your health - at significant risk.

Magnesium protects against heart disease and heart attacks, high blood pressure and stroke, type II diabetes and much, much more. It is more important than calcium, potassium or sodium and regulates all three of them. Contrary to popular misconceptions, it is magnesium that is actually most important in building strong bones and preventing bone loss.

Magnesium is a muscle relaxant, while calcium is a muscle constrictor. Low magnesium intake is associated with muscle spasm, tremors and convulsions. Most Americans, particularly women, have been advised to consume 1200-1500 milligrams of calcium daily. Virtually none of these women have been told that calcium in single doses that exceed 500 milligrams are not absorbed and that they only need an additional 400-600 milligrams of supplemental calcium since their diet already provides about 800 milligrams of this mineral. Since 99 percent of magnesium resides inside living cells, blood serum levels are not a good indicator of magnesium deficiency. Blood tests for magnesium are notoriously inaccurate. Only 1 percent of the total body magnesium pool exists outside of living cells. So blood serum levels are notoriously inaccurate. [Clin Chem Lab Med 37: 1011-33, 1999]. In other words, your doctor can`t easily tell you by a blood test if your magnesium levels are low.

The Health Benefits of Magnesium have Been Vastly Underestimated

A number of studies have previously shown magnesium can benefit your blood pressure and help prevent sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, and stroke. For example, one meta-analysis published earlier this year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition2 looked at a total of seven studies collectively covering more than 240,000 participants. The results showed that dietary magnesium intake is inversely associated with risk of ischemic stroke.

But its role in human health appears to be far more complex than previously thought, and—like vitamin D—its benefits may be more far-reaching than we've imagined. GreenMedInfo.com's database project has indexed over 100 health benefits of magnesium so far, including therapeutic benefits for:http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/12/17/magnesium-benefits.aspx

A Study Finds Magnesium Cut Deaths by Heart Attack
By LAWRENCE K. ALTMAN

Injections of magnesium at the time of a heart attack reduced deaths by a fourth in a study of more than 2,300 patients, British researchers reported in a medical journal yesterday.

The magnesium injections also reduced by 25 percent the incidence of heart failure among patients during their stay in a coronary care unit after a heart attack, the researchers reported in The Lancet, a leading journal published in London.

Magnesium's effectiveness in the study was about equal to the highly beneficial results found in other recent studies from aspirin and drugs that dissolve the blood clots that produce heart attacks. Such clot-dissolving drugs include streptokinase and T.P.A. Cautious Stance in U.S.

But magnesium's benefits were independent of those from aspirin and the clot dissolving drugs, the research team headed by Dr. Kent L. Woods said.

The researchers said that magnesium therapy was simple and safe, and they urged that it be added to the array of pharmacological weapons that doctors now use for patients with suspected heart attacks. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/06/28/world/a-study-finds-magnesium-cut-deaths-by-heart-attack.html

Magnesium Chloride Health Benefits
Magnesium regulates and transports over 300 enzymes into the body, according to Dr. Carolyn Dean, author of "The Magnesium Miracle." While there are many different forms of magnesium supplements to choose from, magnesium chloride leads the way with powerful benefits due to its fast absorption rate culminating in immediate response. Dosage and the form applied for magnesium chloride should be discussed with a medical care practitioner then conducted and monitored with medical supervision.
Protects Against Adult Diabetes

Magnesium deficiency has been found in many adult diabetics, according to Michael Murray, N. D. and author of "Diabetes with Natural Medicine." When glucose levels are high, magnesium is pushed out of the bloodstream. Glucose then has trouble reaching the cells that use glucose as energy. Intracellular magnesium plays a huge role in metabolizing the glucose and improving insulin response. A highly absorbable source, magnesium chloride is able to reach cells more quickly for favorable effects.

Focus on Seniors: Magnesium is mighty mineral for health
his column has, at times, become an anthology of my health experiences. As a result, you know that I feel that chiropractic works and that I see two chiropractors for two different things.

You also know that I’ve seen results from a fruit-and-vegetable supplement, that I avoid wheat products, have mild sleep apnea that I’ve treated with an oral appliance, and that my warts were cured with duct tape. Sounds like a revival of the magazine, True Confessions.

So here’s the next one: muscle spasms. Do you wake up with leg cramps? Do you have muscle cramps during the day? I did, and I knew about the solution years ago, but ignored it and finally got around to solving the problem. What was the solution? Magnesium.

Magnesium is a mineral. In 1900, our intake of magnesium was about 500 mg a day. Today, the average intake of magnesium is less than half of that. What’s happened since 1900? We’ve removed minerals from our water. Our soil is depleted of magnesium. Our modern, processed wheat has most of the magnesium removed. And diets high in refined carbohydrates (sugar) require magnesium for metabolism, so it’s depleted even more.http://www.floridatoday.com/article/20130530/COLUMNISTS0803/305300016/Focus-Seniors-Magnesium-mighty-mineral-health

What You Need To Know About The Benefits Of Magnesium

Eating on the run? Trying out a new fad diet? Forgetting to eat your veggies? If you've answered yes to any of these questions, you aren't alone. Busy schedules, fad diets and bad eating habits get in the way of proper nutrition. The good news is that nearly 80 percent of Americans are taking mineral supplements and multi-vitamins to help replace much-needed nutrients including calcium, potassium and magnesium. Some people, including those with diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as chronic hypothyroidism, are at even greater risk of a nutrient deficiency because of the nature of these conditions. In fact, up to 90 percent of Americans don't get the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of magnesium from their diet alone. This might account for the fact that the amount of magnesium people are getting has plummeted over 50 percent over the last century! If you aren't getting enough magnesium, you might be experiencing symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Symptoms can include leg cramps, migraines, fatigue, loss of appetite, depression, nausea and vomiting or high blood pressure.

P-5-P is more effective for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome than surgery.

While all vitamins and minerals are required and have a specific function, there are a few that I think deserve honorable mention; Vitamin B6, otherwise known as P-5-P (pyridoxal-5-phosphate) for its benefits to reduce edema associated with PMS or congestive heart failure. Anyone with congestive heart failure will see a significant difference in their symptoms after supplementing with P-5-P than with just drugs alone. Before supplementing your diet, always talk to your physician. P-5-P is more effective for carpal tunnel syndrome than surgery. P-5-P along with magnesium, lipoic-acid, and boswellia has a significant effect reducing neuropathy confirmed by numbing and tingling of fingers, hands, toes and burning feet. Autistic children see an improvement when their diet is supplemented with P-5-P and magnesium. Many arthritic conditions are also benefitted. Many years ago, Dr. John Ellis, a medical physician from Texas, wrote a book called, The Doctor Who Looked at Hands, since he observed his patients’ health through their hands. If the hands were gnarled and crippled and were unable to close where the fingers touched the palms, he knew his patients were deficient in vitamin B6. Over a period of 20 years, Dr. John Ellis and his colleagues who prescribed vitamin B6 to their heart patients were said to have never lost a patient to a heart attack or heart disease; The mineral zinc is another one of my favorite on the honorable mention list. I will cover this soon.http://www.terrytalksnutrition.com/terrys-blog/2012/02-08/p-5-p-is-more-effective-for-carpal-tunnel-syndrome-than-surgery/

P5P is the active form of vitamin B6. It is required for the production of neurotransmitters that control depression, pain and anxiety. Studies show that P5P has beneficial effects on depression, stress, pain, and long-term memory. It also protects nerves and reduces the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, and it supports the immune system.

As it turns out, there is a simple and effective vitamin therapy for Jim's Trigger Finger hand condition called Pyridoxine, vitmin B6. Jim was given a bottle of pyridoxine phosphate (the activated form) and 3 weeks later, an amazed Jim returned to report that his pain and swelling is gone, and his trigger finger had also resolved. He no longer needs the operationhttp://jeffreydach.com/2009/11/10/vitamin-b6-pyridoxine-for-trigger-finger-and-carpal-tunnel-by-jeffrey-dach-md.aspx

With magnesium citrate and l'arginine, I have gotten my blood pressure way down with no meds.

If a pregnant women has high blood pressure during delivery, they start a magnesium drip.

Dr. Louis Ignarro won the Nobel Prize with his research on nitric acid preventing heart attack and stroke. L'arginine keeps your blood vessels dilated. I take time release and regular l'arginine. His research led to his being called, "The Father of Viagra."

sex - meh....also very painful.

Thanks for your magnesium story - I was able to cut out taking muscle relaxers, which really don't relax the muscles, only tricks your brain into thinking they are. And a nerve pain pill, but was invented for seizures. Best of all I haven't had a throw-up migraine in 2 years, nor the constant daily threat of one over my right eye.

I heart Magnesium Chloride & Citrate.
