Has anyone worn one of the new Holter monitors?

The old were a harness kind of thing.

This new one (applied yesterday) is a small device attached with stickum of some kind. I have to wear it for fourteen days but it is itching like crazy and a bit painful as well.

I really need it, having sinus bradycardia in the range of 37 to 50 beats per minute for a couple of weeks now. Need that documented -- a pacemaker is likely in my future.

used one last year and he didn't seem bothered by it... he has severe bradycardia (with no symptoms except readings) he was supposed to activate it whenever he experienced anything abnormal... the doc was nonplussed given the erratic heart beats...

at one point the doctors wanted to stop his heart and restart it but he has chosen to have no more invasive procedures

I hope you can manage to tolerate the monitor as it gives so much good information to the doctors

2. Yes and here's what my Dr. told me to do with the itching and burning.

Buy a bottle of Flonase. Take off the device, shower and clean the skin. Dry well and spray the Flonase on the area and let the skin dry. Apply the device, she had me move it over just a bit, and the flonase will stop the itching and burning. Mine was so bad the skin was blistered. After I did that it was no longer an issue. Good luck

3. You might try a Benadryl.

If that doesn't work and you break out in hives get to the ER.

Got my pacemaker 3 months ago. Went for a 3 mile jog today. I knew I had Bradycardia and my normal pulse was around 43-45. One evening I felt really tired and my GF, a nurse, took my pules and rushed me to the ER, it was at 28 bpm, went home 2 days later with my pacemaker. Feel a lot better now with 60 bpm.

I had a weekend about five years ago when mine was hovering just above thirty.

Unfortunately two of my important pills also have the effect of slowing bpm. One is my beta blocker, which controls things like PVCs, skipped beats, etc., and the other is a blood pressure pill for systolic spikes (a routine thing for me). So I'm instructed to hold those pills when pulse is below fifty. Ha. That's most of the time recently.

I would feel great with 55 bpm.

The ER is my plan if I feel symptomatic.

7. They have adjusted my pacemaker several times.

Started it at 75 and then I went to the ER when it dropped to 45. It was brand new and I feared that I had pulled a lead wire out. Must be careful at first until it heals. Can't raise your arm above your head or lift over 5 lbs for a month. I was having a flat hearth beat every 6 beats, so they jacked it up to 90 bpm. My next apt. they lowered it to 75 and now at 60. and gave me a different bp med that I start tomorrow. Looks like they have to fine tun it. Now have a bedside machine that reports my pulse to the hospital.

My big worry is Afib. That kind of goes along with it. The read out the other day said I went into Afib a couple of times last month. Only for a couple of minutes. My friend has Afib and has a pacemaker and I've taken him to the ER a few times and he was in a lot of pain.

In the mean time the doc told me to keep running.

8. I bought this cool little device off amazon last month

You hold it between your palms or fingertips and it gives you ten seconds of an EKG tracing on the screen. You can send it via the usb connection to your doctor. It will tell you on screen about abnormalities, missed beats, arrhythmia, etc. I don't have a-fib, so I haven't seen that designation for me, but supposedly it will tell you that. $119 and highly recommended by physicians in the reviews on amazon.

I worked for several years in a Cardiac Care Unit as the unit clerk and EKG tech in the hospital, and also worked in a doctor's office, so I am definitely familiar with what's going on with my heart. I think I would feel rotten at 90 bpm. Or even 75.

9. I took a lie detector test about 15 years ago.

By the way, I passed it and the cop refused to take it. Anyway the tech told me I have a small bleep at the end of my heart beat. So, told my doctor and he did an EKG and said yep you got one. My brother has the same thing.
