Martin Short on how he keeps his life in balance

(I have heard Martin talk about this a couple of times, and I think it is a marvelous plan. I really view him as a very happy and caring person. I do question if he really puts extended family above career).

Every Monday morning, I have 9 categories (I have been doing this for 20 years), of normalcy. My analogy is that life is like you're in university and if you make any one category more important than the other, then let's say if your career is dead, you will think that you're a failure, but if you are doing well in the other subjects, then you have got a great report card.

1 Yourself (are you sick)
2 Family, your wife and kids
3 Extended family
4 Friends
5 Money
6 Career
7 Creativity
8 Discipline
9 Life style

Each one of these categories, you look and say how am I doing this week. Monday morning, I look at each one and I try to balance it.
