Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ending 50 years of federal abortion rights

The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion.

Roe since 1973 had permitted abortions during the first two trimesters of pregnancy in the United States.

Almost half the states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision on a Mississippi case known as Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

The Mississippi law upheld by today's ruling has no exceptions for rape, incest, or the life of the pregnant woman.

Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion. The court’s other five conservatives, including Chief Justice John Roberts, joined in the judgment, which was opposed by the three liberal justices.

Now - it's on to gay rights, interracial marriage, and the bedroom in general.

Unless, of course, you're part of the in-crowd - then, it's one orgy after another.

I said that in another thread on DU earlier, and I still stand by it.

As long as there's a conservative justice who's in an interracial marriage, that one will be off limits. I'd bet money on it.

I'm really afraid for the LGBTQ+ community, though.

From the first paragraph:

"The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision overturned Roe v. Wade..."

From the last paragraph:

"Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion. The court’s other five conservatives, including Chief Justice John Roberts, joined in the judgment, which was opposed by the three liberal justices."

I presume the last paragraph is the correct one, but it's annoying when an article from a major news source contradicts itself.

And yes, I know it doesn’t technically matter if the majority was 5 or 6. But the first paragraph made me think for a moment that there was at least one conservative justice who hadn't completely gone over to the dark side. I should have known better, of course!
