What's for Dinner, Sun., Aug. 29, 2021

Vegetable soup with tortellini. I made the pistou that goes with it, which is basil, olive oil, garlic, and grated parmesan. I'll add a tablespoon; should be super-delish.

Later on, a salad. I'm thinking cucumbers with mint and red onion in sour cream.

Late night dessert will be a couple squares of burnt sugar dark chocolate and a cup of sweet and spicy earth tea.

Cook the squash, shred & set aside. Italian seasoning, ground beef, bell pepper, garlic, onion etc cooked and simmered in marinara. Stir in the squash, then put the mixture in the squash half-shells. Top with Parmesan and bake for 15-20 min

I think I have an apple for dessert. But need to go shopping midweek. Not much in the fridge.

I don't know what I will have with them. I am low on energy.

Perhaps a sweet potato in the microwave and some left over veggies.

It's a bachelor's night as TJ works the night shift tonight.

I think FLFC smells something is up but is napping again. We'll see later if he is excited. He had steak trimmings and peanut butter a little time ago.

Edit:
FLFC got excited and danced around and kept stepping in his plate. The turkey was a hit, but because of his excitement and vision he had to get hand fed.

The stout sailboat Pelagic and her crew are docked on the Wepawaug River in Milford, CT. It’s a lovely village with restored buildings dating to before the American Revolutionary War.

Tonight’s fare begins with boiled then chilled shrimp on Boston Bibb lettuce along with cherry tomatoes and slices of yellow peppers. Cocktail sauce and lemon on the side.

For the main course, we’re sharing a seared yellowfin tuna fillet marinated in drizzled soy sauce and served with Wasabi and plated with white rice. The First Mate is adamant about pan-frying a little broccoli and it’s her galley so…

(I’m still the captain but she always reminds me that ship’s cooks were paid more than the captain in order to keep the crew from mutinying!)

Dessert will be orange slices and brandy while we play Gin Rummy.

NJCher, what is burnt sugar dark chocolate? I love your daily post (obviously) because I love food and I learn new things all the time thanks to your post and the many others you who post inspired replies. You’re much appreciated.

in NEW Milford, our 'country' getaway; we lived in Brooklyn at the time.

We used to visit Candlewood Lake, and during winter, Uncle George cut our own 'Hanukah Bush,' which Aunt Marie decorated with sugar cookies.

THANKS for the memories, PJ!
