(2,944 posts)have a convection oven, but I don't use that setting too much either for the same reason.

(11,832 posts)Use it all the time. I love that I can fry with almost no oil. I am a vegetarian and it is great for tofu and air frying plant based meats improves their flavor by a mile. Also use it as a pressure cooker and to bake small bread loaves. Did I say I love it? LOL.

(3,289 posts)very fast without heating up the whole kitchen. I put mine under the range hood and almost no heat in the kitchen. Does terrific chicken thighs. If you have the space it is another kitchen tool.

(10,972 posts)I have a grill plate for mine and use it for steaks, burgers, pork chops, etc. They come out amazing in less than 10 minutes. Every time I've tried to use it for things like french fries, however, I've hated the results - burnt and not really crispy.

That's really all an "air fryer" is.

(6,078 posts)drawback is that it isn't very tall so you can't bake bread in it. If it was a few inches taller it would be perfect. It also flips up so it doesn't take up a lot of space when it's not in use.

(2,870 posts)It might take some time to figure out what foods you prefer to cook in an air fryer. I find things like fries, finger food snacks (mushrooms, cheese sticks, onion rings), wings, etc. are terrific.

(26,107 posts)but it does a great job on kielbasa and potatoey things. Saw a Pinterest where someone was doing pot pies in 11 minutes or so. They are a bit bulky, and they put out a lot of heat, so they can be a fire hazard. We use ours on a cart so we can angle the vent away from stuff

(9,257 posts)Frozen potatoes and hot dogs mostly. But it also makes a great baked potato without heating up the oven to go with grilled steaks in the summer.

(42,770 posts)absolutely forget about it. They are also huge -- won't even fit on the shelf in my pantry.
However if you want to fry without oil you get something that tastes like it's "fried"without oil. Comes out brown and dry.
Of course I believe in moderation. I don't think something fried every couple weeks is going to hurt you. Especially if you fry in a pan with olive oil.
