What's for Dinner, Mon., Jan. 17, 2022

Chow mein made on a sheet pan. I found the recipe in my Washington Post "Eat Voraciously" newsletter.

It has egg noodles (narrow), broccoli, baby corn, asparagus, carrot, bell pepper. I'm putting in large shrimp.

The recipe is from To Asia with Love, says the editor of the WP newsletter.

I'm still trying to figure out how to hide the sun dried tomatoes...hubs says he doesn't like them but I LOVE the flavor they impart in this recipe. Tossed green salad on the side with garlic butter croutons.

In her previous life, the Landlady(!) had a familial connection to a NYC Midtown restaurant called The Palm. It was a relatively high-end steak and seafood eatery that provided over-sized portions of nearly every dish making their high prices seem almost reasonable.

Bruno was one of their chefs. His signature shrimp dish is fairly simple. Shell, de-vein and rinse the shrimp. Pat dry. Coat liberally with flour then sauté in olive oil over medium heat. Meanwhile, prepare a sauce of Dijon mustard, dry white wine and minced garlic. When the shrimp are nearly cooked, increase the heat, add the sauce and flash fry for 30 seconds or so, stirring the mixture around the shrimp.

Serve it on white rice and we'll have pan-fried green beans as another side dish.

There was some frozen pumpkin pie in our freezer. That's thawing for dessert and we have a little vanilla ice cream to go with it.

It’s a baked chili dog…thing. Basically savory bread pudding with cut up hot dogs in it, baked, topped with chili and shredded cheese then broiled a bit.

We’ll see. She doesn’t ask for a lot of special meals so…
