Really easy

Except I melt the butter in the cooking pan, I add the mixed ingredients over the melted
butter, I don't add the sugar, and I bake 'em for 20 minutes @ 450 F.

(22,767 posts)Not sure why you omit all the sugar, but it adds more to breads than just flavor. It also assists in texture and browning.

(22,767 posts)I'm diabetic, as well. But it's not just about sugar content, it's all the carbs we eat that really have to be watched over the course of a day. (I am absolutely NOT a keto adherent, eating that way messed up my kidneys years ago.)
So if your neighbor is consuming the biscuits, the horse is already at least half way out of the barn. Maybe add just half of the sugar next time and see how it goes. 4 1/2 teaspoons is a lot for a biscuit recipe in my estimation.
Maybe also try brushing them with a milk or egg wash before baking. That helps with browning, as well.
Edited typo.

(20,482 posts)in a hotel. Turns out there was a square-dance convention that evening.
We were watching, and it was nice and entertaining
very pleasant.
A woman participant started chatting with us, extolling the pleasures of square-dancing:
and its better than sex! she exclaimed.
My wife, without thinking or any hesitation blurted Youre doing it wrong
I may steal that one.

(20,482 posts)this hotel was in Oklahoma City. The night we were there, in the wee wee hours of the night, there was a VERY big (for Oklahoma) earthquake
one of those caused by fracking. I would guess it lasted 30 seconds or so
we were confused and anxious, wondering WTF!?!?!?
After it was all over and we got calmed down, I said I think she figured it out.
Now you might think Im making this up. Thats understandable
but I swear its true.

(5,433 posts)for this recipe. I am for sure going to bake them. It is strawberry season here in Florida and my husband grew up with these kind of biscuits for shortcake. He will be HAPPY. Thanks again! And regarding being diabetic it is actually the flour that has the killer carbs. I will have a half when I indulge. The little bit of sugar in the recipe is negligible. Just my 2 cents worth.

(15,062 posts)They were delicious (and this morning for breakfast too!). More like a cake texture than a layered flaky one.
Next time, I would make them in a 9" pan instead of 8".
Nice to have a simple biscuit alternative.
Thanks for the recipe.

(70,447 posts)Feel free to add spices. Think of this recipe as a blank canvas. Black pepper, garlic powder, sesame seeds, and even everything bagel seasoning would make great additions to these biscuits and amp up their flavor.

I'm gonna make some more but this time I will add the everything spice.

(15,062 posts)I always like to make a new recipe just as written. Then I mess with it and add extras. Love the idea of pepper, garlic, and sesame seeds.
I went out and bought an 8" pan yesterday just for this too!
Isn't DU wonderful!
