Puffy stuff in the freezer door.

I have an upright freezer and when I put stuff in plastic bags (with air expressed first) in the shallow door shelves, it puffs up with air. The stuff in the main part of the freezer does not do this. Is it the difference in temperature from opening the door or something else?

so I use it for nuts and flours that need to be kept too cold to go rancid, but don't really need to be held as cold as frozen fish or poultry.

That's probably not the actual term but the thingy that circulates air through the freezer in our frig is in the wall between the two compartments and a little forward from the door. That could do it.
